Iberojet missed connection on one booking

Published: 10 September 2026

A missed connection is strongest when Iberojet and the onward sector form one transport contract. In that case, the delay at the last ticketed destination—not merely at Madrid or Lisbon—can decide whether the three-hour EU261 threshold is met. A travel agency can display several flights together while issuing separate tickets, so the booking documents matter more than the visual itinerary.

Check your case in the form

Enter your route, date and type of disruption. We will check whether your case qualifies for a claim under EU 261/2004 or UK261.

What happened to your flight?

Claim up to €600 for a delayed or cancelled flight.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

This guide states the rules in force on 9 September 2026. The July 2026 EU reform has deferred application. Its future nine-month claim period is not the present deadline.

Prove whether the connection was protected

Compare the booking reference, e-ticket numbers and coupons. One through fare, baggage checked to the final city and a single rebooking obligation all support one contract, although no single indicator is conclusive. A “self-transfer” warning, separate ticket numbers or a requirement to collect and recheck bags points the other way.

Suppose an agency sells Punta Cana–Madrid on E9 and Madrid–Dublin on another airline in one screen. If it issued one through ticket, Dublin may be the final destination. If it sold two independent tickets, Iberojet normally promised carriage only to Madrid, and the passenger bears a much greater onward-connection risk.

Check direction and each operating carrier

E9/Evelop is Spanish and 6O/Orbest is Portuguese; both are EU carriers operating under the Iberojet brand. An EU departure can engage EU261, and an inbound flight from a third country can also be covered when one of these EU entities operates it. Preserve the original operated-by line because a replacement or codeshare can introduce a different carrier.

For a multi-airline journey, identify the operator of the sector that caused the missed connection. Passenger nationality and the package seller do not determine coverage. A separate UK feeder does not automatically bring an otherwise unrelated Iberojet contract under UK261.

Measure delay at the contractual final destination

Arrival is normally when a door opens and passengers may leave. Use local scheduled and actual times at the final destination. The delay of the first aircraft can be below three hours yet cause a much later final arrival; conversely, a lengthy departure delay can shrink after rebooking.

Maria travels on one ticket from Cancún to Madrid to Rome. The E9 sector lands two hours late, she misses the protected connection, and she reaches Rome six hours late. If the itinerary and operator satisfy territorial requirements, the six-hour Rome arrival is the relevant compensation clock. The distance assessment can also use the protected journey, subject to applicable case law and facts.

If Rome was a separately purchased self-transfer, measure Iberojet's performance to Madrid. Costs caused by losing the second ticket may require a different contractual or damages analysis and should not be advertised as automatic EU261 compensation.

Rerouting and care come before the later claim

At the transfer airport, ask the responsible carrier for rerouting to the final destination at the earliest opportunity. Keep any written refusal before buying a reasonable alternative. During the wait, care can include meals, communications, hotel accommodation and hotel transfers where timing makes them necessary.

These duties are distinct from fixed compensation. Severe weather might defeat the fixed award, but it does not automatically remove reasonable care. A refund is an alternative where the journey no longer serves its purpose; accepting it generally means the carrier need not also provide onward travel.

Package travellers should tell the organiser if the lost connection affects transfers or accommodation. Package remedies remain separate, and the same hotel night cannot be charged twice.

Build a connection chronology that can be verified

Save the original itinerary before rebooking changes it. Record scheduled arrival at the hub, actual door-opening time, onward gate closure, assistance requested, replacement departure and actual final arrival. Add boarding passes, bag tags and messages. Label time zones.

Use Iberojet's claim form with the locator and surname. In the first paragraph, say that the sectors were on one ticket and identify the final destination. Attach every coupon; otherwise a handler may assess only the Iberojet sector. Keep a complete copy of the submitted fields and files.

If Iberojet argues that the tickets were separate, request the contractual basis and compare it with the e-ticket receipt. If it invokes extraordinary circumstances, ask for the specific event, causal link and reasonable measures.

Keep the amounts legally separate.

Fixed compensation may be EUR 250, EUR 400 or EUR 600 per eligible passenger, depending on the relevant distance and all other conditions. Necessary waiting expenses are claimed at actual cost. Reimbursement concerns unused carriage. Montreal baggage loss is supported by a PIR, bag tag, receipts and a timely written claim. These are not interchangeable totals.

Questions about missed Iberojet connections

Does one booking reference prove a protected connection?

Not always. Check ticket numbers, coupons and fare structure. Agency systems can place independent tickets under one display reference.

Is delay measured at Madrid or my final city?

On one transport contract, the final ticketed destination can control. With a self-transfer, Iberojet's contractual destination may be Madrid.

Can a two-hour first delay still qualify?

Yes, if it causes arrival at the protected final destination at least three hours late and the remaining EU261 conditions are met.

Who pays for a hotel after the missed connection?

The carrier responsible for rerouting should provide reasonable care where required. If it fails, retain itemised receipts and proof that assistance was requested.

Is there now only nine months to claim?

No. The July 2026 reform has deferred application; its future nine-month period is not current on 9 September 2026.
