Tunisair Fidelys: award tickets, upgrades and disrupted flights

This guide addresses Tunisair Fidelys compensation for Tunisair travel. The law and airline information were checked on 28 August 2026. Verify the route and operator for the travel date.

First test the direction of the flight

Tunisair is a Tunisian carrier. It is not an EU or UK airline. EC261 can cover its European departures. A direct Tunisia-to-Europe flight is normally outside EC261.

UK261 uses a similar direction test. A UK departure can be protected. A direct Tunisair return from Tunisia normally is not.

Nationality and payment currency do not alter the test. Examine each direction separately. A protected outbound does not protect the return automatically.

After scope, examine the event, arrival delay, distance and cause. A covered flight still needs all other conditions.

Separate four balances in the loyalty account

Fidelys publishes award tickets with cash taxes paid separately and a twelve-month validity framework. When Tunisair cancels, record the miles debited, taxes charged, ticket validity and replacement offered. Do not accept restoration of miles as the answer to every statutory claim.

Programme rules say award tickets can be changed, cancelled or refunded while valid under applicable conditions. Those contract rules address the ticket account. EC261 or UK261 fixed compensation follows a separate territorial and disruption test.

Fidelys upgrade awards are restricted by booking class, availability and approval, and cannot be combined with an award ticket under the published rules. Preserve the original cabin, eligible fare, miles deduction and actual cabin delivered.

A denied upgrade within the same purchased cabin is different from a statutory downgrade. If Tunisair carried the passenger below the ticketed cabin, Article 10 may apply on a covered route. If an optional upgrade never confirmed, programme refund rules may lead instead.

Worked example

A member uses Fidelys miles for an award seat from an EU airport and pays taxes in cash. Tunisair cancels late. The member requests rerouting or restoration of ticket value, a tax refund where appropriate and separately assesses fixed compensation for the covered cancellation.

What can be requested in a covered Tunisair Fidelys compensation case?

Fixed payment, ticket choices and care costs are separate. List each requested amount.

EC261 normally uses great-circle distance. A protected through booking uses its final destination. Timely rerouting can sometimes reduce a fixed payment.

Tunisair says it aims to answer within two months. That is not a universal time limit. Ask a vague refusal for the precise cause and measures taken.

Escalation depends on the regime and departure state. An EU body may examine compliance. It may not recover money in every case. Tunisia also has a Ministry complaint portal. Court rules need a separate review.

Common mistakes to avoid

A Tunisair code does not prove who operated the flight. Check the operated-by line. Test the EU outbound and Tunisia return separately. Accept a voucher only by informed choice.

Keep baggage, refund, care and fixed payment amounts separate. Each has its own basis. Calculate the request rather than sending one unexplained total.

The EU reform approved in July 2026 is not yet applied on the checked date. Its future nine-month claim rule is not a current deadline. Nor is its 30-day reply rule. Existing law and national limitation rules still govern.

Can an award ticket qualify for EC261?

A publicly available loyalty award is not automatically excluded. Territorial scope and disruption conditions still apply.

What happens to cash taxes?

Track taxes separately from miles and request the amount due under the ticket remedy and programme rules.

Is a failed upgrade a downgrade?

Can an award ticket and upgrade award be combined?
