First test the direction of the flight
Tunisair is a Tunisian carrier. It is not an EU or UK airline. EC261 can cover its European departures. A direct Tunisia-to-Europe flight is normally outside EC261.

Start with the exact flight for which payment is requested. Record the departure airport, final ticketed destination and the airline shown after "operated by". The marketing code, seller and aircraft colours can be misleading when another carrier performs the service.
Next classify the event. Delays are measured at arrival, while cancellations require the notice date and the replacement schedule. Denied boarding, a major early departure and a diversion can create different tests even when the airport describes everything as a delay.
Then identify the reason and its causal link. Routine operational or technical issues may leave fixed compensation available. Severe weather, air traffic restrictions or security events can remove that payment only when Tunisair proves the connection and reasonable measures.
Finally calculate each remedy per passenger. Fixed compensation is not the ticket refund, and neither amount replaces reasonable meals or a necessary hotel. A family should state the passenger count and calculate each ticketed traveller individually.

Two adults and a child travel from Paris to Tunis on a Tunisair-operated flight. They reach Tunis four hours late after an ordinary operational problem. EC261 normally uses great-circle distance. A protected through booking uses its final destination. Timely rerouting can sometimes reduce a fixed payment.

The EU reform approved in July 2026 is not yet applied on the checked date. Its future nine-month claim rule is not a current deadline. Nor is its 30-day reply rule. Existing law and national limitation rules still govern.

Can I claim EUR 600 from Tunisair?
Possibly. A covered journey over 3,500 km can reach the EUR 600 band when the arrival delay and cause satisfy EC261. Many Europe-Tunisia direct routes fall in lower distance bands, so the airports and entire protected itinerary must be measured.
Does EC261 cover Tunisair from Tunisia to Europe?
Usually not when Tunisair operates the direct flight. The service begins outside the EU and the operating carrier is Tunisian. An EU-origin through journey or a segment operated by an EU carrier needs separate analysis.
Are refunds and compensation the same?
