Oman Air family, child and special-assistance compensation claims
Oman Air compensation is normally calculated for each eligible ticketed passenger, including children, while care expenses follow the amount actually spent for the family. Passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility retain ordinary delay, cancellation and denied-boarding rights and can have additional protection for assistance and mobility equipment under Oman Regulation 757/2024. Document individual tickets, assistance requests and any equipment damage.

Check your case in the form
Enter your route, date and type of disruption. We will check whether your case qualifies for a claim under EU 261/2004 or UK261.
What happened to your flight?
Claim up to €600 for a delayed or cancelled flight.
Choose the situation that applies to your flight:
Do not submit one EUR 600 claim for an entire family. Do not multiply one shared hotel invoice by the number of travellers.
Per-passenger and shared amounts
| Item | Calculation |
|---|---|
| EU261, UK261 or Oman fixed compensation | Per eligible passenger |
| Ticket reimbursement | Per ticket and unused coupon |
| Shared hotel room | Actual room cost |
| Family meal | Actual itemised receipt |
| Taxi used by whole family | One paid fare |
| Damaged wheelchair or mobility device | Equivalent value and actual loss under applicable rule |
List each passenger, age category, ticket number and amount. A shared booking reference does not merge legal entitlement.
Children and infants
Children travelling on paid tickets or qualifying public frequent-flyer tickets are generally protected like adults. EU261 does not reduce fixed compensation by child fare. Oman Regulation 757/2024 includes frequent-flyer tickets.
A free infant travelling without a separate seat may require individual review because the reservation and price structure differ. Keep the infant ticket or service document and taxes. Do not promise the full amount without seeing it.
If Oman Air reroutes a child separately from a responsible adult, object immediately and request a family-safe alternative. Preserve any seating or escort commitments.
The amount guide gives group multiplication examples.
Direction still controls family claims
A family leaving Paris can use EU261 and long-distance EUR 600 bands. From Heathrow, use GBP 520. From Muscat, apply Oman Regulation 757/2024 and its more-than-six-hour delay threshold.
The return Oman Air journey from Muscat to Europe does not gain EU261 or UK261 simply because children are travelling. Family status changes care needs, not territorial scope.
For a one-ticket Europe-Muscat-Asia booking, final arrival is the last destination. Keep every child's boarding pass and replacement record.
Care suitable for children
Reasonable care should account for infants and children: appropriate food, safe accommodation, transport and access to essential supplies. Request these needs expressly rather than buying extensive items without notifying the airline.
If Oman Air provides no care, retain itemised receipts for formula, nappies, ordinary meals, room and transport. Explain why each purchase was necessary. Durable items may be reduced if they retain ongoing value.
One hotel room may not safely accommodate a larger family. If two rooms were reasonably required, show occupancy limits or staff instructions.
The hotel and meal guide separates shared expenses from individual compensation.
Passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility
Notify Oman Air and the airport of assistance needs within the recommended booking timeframe, while understanding that late notice should not lead to automatic abandonment. Keep the assistance request, confirmation and handover records.
During disruption, rerouting must be workable. A connection without accessible transfer, necessary medical support or mobility-device carriage is not equivalent merely because it departs earlier.
Do not share full medical records unless necessary. State functional requirements, equipment dimensions, battery type and handling instructions.
Oman special protections
Regulation 757/2024 contains dedicated provisions for passengers with special needs. Damage or loss of wheelchairs and other mobility equipment is compensated at equivalent value under the relevant article, rather than treating the ordinary baggage ceiling as the only answer.
The regulation also provides a strong remedy where the carrier fails to supply the alternative flight and services required for protected special-needs passengers: Article 53 can reach 200% of the total ticket value in the circumstances it defines. Apply the article carefully and show which required service was denied; do not demand 200% for every ordinary delay.
Keep purchase, repair and replacement evidence for equipment. If a temporary device is supplied, record whether it is genuinely equivalent and safe.
Denied boarding and safety explanations
Oman Air can rely on genuine safety, health, security or document grounds, but it should not use disability as a generic reason to refuse boarding. Ask for the exact assessment and whether reasonable accommodation was considered.
Where the passenger complied with booking and check-in requirements yet capacity or assistance failure caused refusal, preserve an involuntary denied-boarding record. Fixed compensation, rerouting and care can apply in addition to special protection.
The denied-boarding guide explains volunteer and timing distinctions.
Mobility equipment claim file
Include:
- model, serial number, age and purchase evidence;
- pre-travel photographs and condition;
- handling instructions and battery declaration;
- baggage or special-item tag;
- PIR or airport incident report;
- photographs immediately after delivery;
- repair estimate or replacement quotation;
- temporary-equipment cost and suitability;
- assistance booking and airline response.
Report before leaving the airport where possible. Send written notice promptly, applying the shortest relevant baggage period.
Family example
Two adults and two ticketed children travel Frankfurt-Muscat-Bangkok on one booking and arrive eight hours late after a routine Oman Air operational failure. EU261 applies from Frankfurt and the long-distance starting claim is 4 x EUR 600 = EUR 2,400.
The family buys one EUR 160 hotel room and a EUR 68 meal after Oman Air provides no care. Those expenses total EUR 228, not four times EUR 228. If a child's wheelchair is damaged, value and assistance consequences are calculated separately.
Submission and authority
One adult can organise the family file, but Oman Air may request authority from another adult passenger. Parents or guardians should identify their relationship to children. Use secure channels for identity documents.
Submit fixed compensation through the feedback form, care in an itemised table and equipment through the baggage/special-assistance record. Cross-reference case numbers so Oman Air sees one chronology without merging remedies.
If an assistance failure creates immediate safety or medical risk, contact airport and airline services at once rather than waiting for post-travel claims.
FAQ
Do children receive the adult compensation amount?
Ticketed children generally receive the same fixed amount when eligible. A discounted child fare does not proportionally reduce EU261 compensation.
Is a free lap infant always eligible?
Not automatically. Examine the infant ticket, reservation and whether a fare or public programme issued transport.
Can a family multiply one hotel receipt?
No. Claim the actual accommodation paid, while fixed compensation is calculated per qualifying passenger.
What happens if Oman Air damages a wheelchair?
Oman Regulation 757/2024 provides equivalent-value protection for mobility equipment; preserve model, value and repair evidence.
Does every assistance problem pay 200% of the ticket?
No. Article 53 applies to the defined failure to provide required alternative flight and services, not every inconvenience.
