Oman Air compensation amounts in euros, pounds and Omani rials

Oman Air compensation is not one universal figure. A protected EU/EEA departure can produce EUR 250, EUR 400 or EUR 600. A qualifying UK departure uses GBP 220, GBP 350 or GBP 520. Oman Regulation 757/2024 sets OMR 108, OMR 173 or OMR 260 for covered international cancellations and delays exceeding six hours. Choose the legal system before calculating distance or multiplying by passengers.

Start with the eligibility calculator, then verify the route direction. Oman Air is not established in the EU or UK, so an Oman Air-operated flight arriving from Muscat does not normally receive European or British fixed compensation just because it lands there.

The Omani table applies to protected cancellation and denied-boarding situations as defined by the regulation, and to delay above six hours through the delay provision's cross-reference. It is not an exchange-rate translation of EU261.

Direction before distance

Distance cannot rescue a journey outside territorial scope. Paris-Muscat operated by Oman Air starts in the EU and can sit in the EUR 600 long-distance band. Muscat-Paris operated by the same airline and over the same physical route normally falls outside EU261 because Oman Air is a non-EU carrier departing a third country.

London-Heathrow-Muscat begins in the UK and can reach GBP 520. The reverse direction does not gain UK261 coverage through destination alone. Muscat-Bangkok is assessed under Oman rules and can reach OMR 260 because it starts in Oman and exceeds 3,500 km.

For one protected connected booking, measure distance from the first departure to the final ticketed destination. A Frankfurt-Muscat-Kuala Lumpur itinerary can therefore be in the EUR 600 band even when the operational problem arose on the onward sector. The Europe-Asia connection guide explains the one-booking test.

Delay thresholds behind each number

EU261 and UK261 generally require arrival at the final destination at least three hours late for a delay claim. The amount is then based on distance, not the number of late hours. A four-hour and a twelve-hour delay can produce the same fixed sum.

Oman Regulation 757/2024 uses a delay exceeding six hours before cancellation compensation is applied. Earlier delays can create refreshments, meals, accommodation or a claim for proven damage, but not automatically OMR 108-260. Review the three-hour versus six-hour comparison.

When the amount can be reduced

Under EU261, long-distance compensation may fall by 50% if rerouting results in arrival no more than four hours after schedule. The corresponding UK rules also permit a long-distance reduction within the statutory window. This means a qualifying EUR 600 case can become EUR 300, or GBP 520 can become GBP 260.

Oman law has its own mechanism. An alternative international flight arriving within two hours can remove fixed compensation. If rerouting reaches the destination within three hours for the shortest band, four hours for the middle band or five hours for the longest, the amount can be reduced by 50%.

Always compare the original final arrival with the actual replacement arrival. A quick arrival at Muscat does not end the calculation when the protected ticket continues to India or Southeast Asia.

Multiply per eligible passenger

Fixed compensation is normally assessed for each passenger, not each booking reference. Four eligible adults on one long-distance EU departure may therefore seek four times EUR 600 before any permitted reduction. Each name, ticket and authority to claim should be documented.

Children with tickets are generally assessed individually. Frequent-flyer travel issued through a programme open to the public is not excluded from EU261 merely because miles paid for the seat. Oman Regulation 757/2024 expressly includes frequent-flyer tickets. A free infant without a separate seat may require individual review of the fare and reservation.

Do not add unrelated figures

Ticket reimbursement returns unused fare. Care expenses repay reasonable meals, accommodation or transport. Montreal Convention damages address proven loss from delay or baggage events. A cabin downgrade has a percentage-based remedy. None of those figures should be hidden inside the fixed-compensation multiplication.

The current Montreal baggage limit is 1,519 Special Drawing Rights per passenger for international carriage, effective 28 December 2024. That is a liability ceiling, not an automatic payment and not an Oman Air delay award. Oman's 2024 passenger regulation still prints the former 1,288 SDR baggage figure; use the later treaty revision for qualifying international Montreal carriage.

Calculation examples

Two passengers from Paris to Bangkok

One Oman Air booking begins at Paris-CDG, connects in Muscat and arrives in Bangkok 7 hours late after a routine operational problem. The complete covered distance is over 3,500 km. Before any defence or reduction, the calculation is 2 x EUR 600 = EUR 1,200.

One passenger from Heathrow to Muscat

Arrival is 5 hours late and UK261 applies. The journey is over 3,500 km, so the starting figure is GBP 520. The cause must still be checked.

Family from Muscat to Bangkok

Three ticketed passengers arrive more than six hours late on a covered Oman departure. The international distance is above 3,500 km. The starting Oman calculation is 3 x OMR 260 = OMR 780, subject to force majeure and alternative timing.

Evidence for the amount

Attach the complete itinerary, ticket receipt, operated-by details, schedule, final arrival proof and disruption cause. Show the great-circle distance endpoints and any rerouting timing. List each passenger and amount in a simple table.

Use Oman Air's feedback form for the fixed claim. Keep ticket refunds and itemised expenses in separate lines. The claim procedure gives a document order that is easy to review.

FAQ

Is Oman Air compensation always EUR 600?

No. EUR 600 is a long-distance EU261 amount and only applies when territorial, timing and causation conditions are satisfied.

How much is UK261 compensation for a long Oman Air flight?

The standard long-distance figure is GBP 520, potentially reduced to GBP 260 after qualifying rerouting.

What is the maximum Oman international amount?

Regulation 757/2024 sets OMR 260 for the longest international band, before any permitted reduction.

Do I calculate distance to Muscat or the final destination?

For one protected connecting booking, use the first departure and final ticketed destination. Separate tickets usually need separate measurements.

Is the 1,519 SDR baggage limit extra flight compensation?

No. It is a Montreal Convention liability ceiling for baggage claims and requires proof of actual loss or damage.
