How to claim Oman Air compensation step by step

A strong Oman Air claim starts by choosing the governing law from the journey direction, then proves the operating carrier, legal event, final timing, amount and evidence. Use Oman Air's post-travel feedback channel for fixed passenger-rights compensation, its refund route for unused fare, and its baggage process for luggage. A single undifferentiated request makes a correct decision harder.

Check your case in the form

Enter your route, date and type of disruption. We will check whether your case qualifies for a claim under EU 261/2004 or UK261.

Step 1 of 813% completed

What happened to your flight?

Claim up to €600 for a delayed or cancelled flight.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

Check eligibility before filing. An Oman Air journey from Paris or another EU/EEA airport can fall under EU261, a Heathrow departure can fall under UK261, and a Muscat departure is assessed under Oman Regulation 757/2024. A separate Oman Air flight from Muscat to Europe normally does not qualify for EU261 or UK261.

Step 1: map the complete ticket

Write the initial departure, every connection and the final ticketed destination. Record whether all sectors share one booking and e-ticket. This determines territorial scope, distance and where final delay is measured.

For Paris-Muscat-Bangkok under one reservation, Paris is the starting point and Bangkok is the final destination. If Paris-Muscat and Muscat-Bangkok were purchased separately, disclose the two contracts; do not present the second ticket as protected rerouting under the first.

Step 2: identify every operating carrier

Read “operated by” on the original itinerary and boarding pass. A WY flight number can be performed by a partner, while an Oman Air aircraft can carry another airline's code. EU261 and UK261 generally put statutory duties on the operating carrier.

Oman Regulation 757/2024 treats codeshare responsibility differently: a passenger can approach operating and marketing carriers, and the regulation allocates joint responsibility. Preserve both names rather than deleting one from the chronology.

The operating-carrier guide helps assign the addressee.

Step 3: choose the governing passenger rule

Initial departureLikely primary systemFixed-delay threshold

UK airportUK2613 hours at final destination
Airport in OmanRegulation 757/2024More than 6 hours
Other country, arriving in Oman on Oman AirDeparture law first, then conditional Oman protectionDepends on applicable system

Do not demand EUR 600 for Muscat-Frankfurt solely because Germany is the destination. Do not use OMR 260 for a Paris departure without explaining why EU261 did not already compensate or assist the passenger.

Step 4: define the legal event and timing

State whether the case concerns final-arrival delay, cancellation, involuntary denied boarding, cabin downgrade or failure to provide care. Different facts and remedies apply.

For delay, calculate scheduled versus actual final arrival in one time zone and use door opening rather than touchdown. For cancellation, save the first notice and compare replacement departure and final arrival. For denied boarding, prove timely presentation and that the passenger did not volunteer. For downgrade, show purchased and flown cabins.

Step 5: calculate each remedy separately

EU261 amounts are EUR 250, EUR 400 and EUR 600. UK261 amounts are GBP 220, GBP 350 and GBP 520. Oman international bands are OMR 108, OMR 173 and OMR 260. Distance, rerouting and event rules can reduce or remove those figures.

Use separate rows for:

  • fixed compensation per eligible passenger;
  • unused ticket reimbursement;
  • necessary meal, hotel and transport expenses;
  • reasonable replacement travel;
  • cabin-downgrade repayment;
  • proven Montreal Convention loss;
  • baggage loss or damage.

This prevents a voucher for fare reimbursement being mistaken for settlement of fixed compensation. See the amount calculation page.

Step 6: assemble a readable evidence pack

Collect the e-ticket receipt, complete booking, original boarding passes, operated-by entries, disruption messages, airport display photographs, replacement itinerary and final arrival proof. Add itemised receipts and evidence that care or rerouting was requested.

Create a one-page chronology. Name attachments in date order, such as 01-ticket, 02-cancellation-email, 03-rebooking and 04-hotel-receipt. Include authority from other adults if submitting a group request.

If the airline gave a reason verbally, write the words, location, approximate time and staff function while memory is fresh. Do not embellish the explanation.

Step 7: send a concise demand

Use Oman Air's feedback form for a post-travel passenger-rights claim. Include:

  1. Passenger names and booking reference.
  2. Date, initial departure and final destination.
  3. Operating carrier and affected sector.
  4. Scheduled and actual timing or cancellation notice.
  5. Governing article and amount per passenger.
  6. Separate expense table and attachments.
  7. Requested payment method and bank information only through a secure channel.

Use the refund process for unused direct-sale tickets. Oman Air's Conditions of Carriage says refunds generally go through the ticket issuer; an agent may therefore process the fare. Send baggage cases through the luggage channel. The form and contact guide maps these choices.

Step 8: test the response

An adequate refusal should identify the event, its causal link and mitigation. If Oman Air says only weather, technical reasons, safety or operations, ask where and when the event occurred, which flight it affected and what alternatives were attempted.

Correct an incorrect scope response with the first departure and complete booking. Correct an operator response with the original operated-by evidence. If your own direction was wrong, change the legal basis rather than repeating an inapplicable EU261 request.

Oman Article 44 says an airline decision is due within 15 working days, while the current CAA FAQ describes a written response within 30 days. Keep the submission acknowledgement and do not invent one certain escalation date from those inconsistent official statements.

Step 9: escalate in the right forum

For an EU departure, the national enforcement body connected to the incident can review compliance, while court jurisdiction and limitation remain national questions. For the UK, complete the airline complaint and check current CAA guidance for ADR or PACT.

For Oman Regulation 757/2024, Article 44 gives 60 working days to approach the Oman CAA after rejection; Article 45 contains a two-year outer limit. Use the current CAA portal and include the airline complaint and response. The Oman escalation guide explains the official 15-versus-30-day inconsistency.

FAQ

Where do I file an Oman Air EU261 claim?

Use Oman Air's post-travel feedback form, identify EU261, and preserve the acknowledgement and submitted attachments.

Should I use the refund form for fixed compensation?

No. Use the refund route for unused fare. A fixed compensation demand belongs in the passenger-rights or feedback complaint.

What is the most important connection evidence?

The single booking and e-ticket showing the first departure, every sector and final destination are central.

Can one person claim for a family?

List every passenger and ticket, and provide authority from other adults if Oman Air requests it. Calculate eligibility per person.

What should I do with a vague refusal?

Ask for the exact event, causal link and reasonable measures, then escalate under the system covering the journey.
