Oman Air hotel, meals and transport reimbursement

Oman Air passengers can claim reasonable meals, hotel accommodation and airport transport when the applicable care duty was triggered and the airline did not provide the service. EU261 and UK261 care depends on distance and waiting time. Oman Regulation 757/2024 provides refreshments after two hours, a meal above three hours and hotel plus transport above six hours. Care is separate from fixed compensation and usually remains due during extraordinary circumstances.

Enter your route, date and type of disruption. We will check whether your case qualifies for a claim under EU 261/2004 or UK261.

What happened to your flight?

Claim up to €600 for a delayed or cancelled flight.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

Ask Oman Air for assistance before self-purchasing where practical. Keep itemised receipts and evidence of refusal or absence. A bank statement proves payment but rarely identifies the necessity.

Care thresholds

Governing journeyRefreshments and mealsHotel and transport
EU261After 2, 3 or 4 hours depending on distanceWhen an overnight stay becomes necessary
UK261Comparable distance-based waiting periodsNecessary overnight accommodation and transfer
Oman Regulation 757/2024Refreshments after 2 hours; meal over 3 hoursMore than 6 hours where required

Most direct Europe-Muscat journeys are long distance, so the EU/UK care point is generally four hours. Cancellation can trigger care while passengers wait for rerouting even without reaching a delay threshold.

The delay threshold page separates care from fixed amounts.

Oman failure-to-provide amounts

Articles 38-39 of Regulation 757/2024 specify compensation where required care is not supplied:

  • 10 SDR for refreshments;
  • 30 SDR for a meal;
  • 100 SDR for hotel accommodation and airport transport.

State whether you seek the regulatory amount, actual reasonable expense under another applicable basis, or both with an explanation preventing double recovery. Do not treat SDR as OMR or convert using an old rate without identifying the valuation date.

In force-majeure situations, Oman hotel provision can be limited to three nights. Expenses beyond that point may require another legal basis, insurance or proof of Montreal delay damage.

What counts as reasonable food?

Ordinary meals and non-alcoholic drinks appropriate to the wait are stronger than luxury dining, alcohol or purchases for people who were not travelling. A family receipt should identify the number of passengers.

If airport shops are closed and only a hotel restaurant is available, record that circumstance. If Oman Air gives a voucher too small for a basic meal, keep both the voucher and remaining receipt rather than claiming the full meal twice.

Dietary, religious and medical needs can affect what is reasonable. Explain the need briefly and avoid sharing unnecessary health detail.

Hotel and airport transfer

Where rerouting requires an overnight wait, Oman Air should provide suitable accommodation. Ask for confirmation before booking. If no room is offered, choose a practical airport-area hotel with a standard rate and retain an invoice showing guest, date and amount.

Transport between airport and hotel is part of care. Keep taxi, train, bus or shuttle receipts. If the airline supplies a coach, using a private limousine without an accessibility or safety reason may lead to reduction.

For passengers living nearby, reasonable travel home and back can sometimes substitute for a hotel. Compare cost and obtain airline agreement where possible.

Extraordinary circumstances do not erase care

Severe weather, air-traffic restrictions, airport closure or security events may remove fixed EUR/GBP/OMR compensation. They generally do not remove the immediate duty to care for stranded passengers.

Oman Air may therefore correctly reject EUR 600 due to a proven airport closure yet still owe a hotel and meals. Present the two requests separately.

Under Oman law, the three-night force-majeure limit should be identified if invoked. Ask when the three nights began and what assistance was provided thereafter.

The weather and force-majeure guide helps evaluate the cause without sacrificing care.

Care during a Muscat connection

A protected one-ticket passenger who misses a connection at Muscat should receive assistance until rerouted. For an EU-origin journey, EU261 care can continue outside Europe because it follows the disrupted continuous booking.

For a Muscat-origin journey, use Oman thresholds. A family waiting eight hours may require meals and, depending on timing, a room and transport. Record what Oman Air offered to each passenger.

Separate-ticket travellers may rely on the first carrier only for the first contract. An OTA self-transfer guarantee can add benefits, but it is not the same as statutory airline care.

Replacement transport and care are different

A taxi to the hotel is care. A new airfare to the final destination is rerouting or replacement transport. Do not put both under “local transport” on the claim form.

Ground travel from an alternative airport to the booked destination may also be rerouting rather than hotel transfer. Label the purpose so Oman Air can apply the correct rule.

The replacement-flight guide covers larger self-help purchases.

Expense table and evidence

Prepare a table:

Date and timeItemWhy necessaryCurrency and amountProof
10 Aug, 20:15Dinner for twoNo voucher after long delayEUR 42.80Itemised receipt
10 Aug, 23:10Airport hotelReplacement next morningEUR 149.00Hotel invoice
11 Aug, 05:30Hotel shuttleNo airline transportEUR 18.00Receipt and request

Attach the itinerary, delay/cancellation message, rerouting time and evidence that Oman Air did not provide care. Translate only key receipt lines where necessary.

Submitting the expense claim

Use Oman Air's feedback form after travel. State fixed compensation separately, then total each expense currency. Do not force conversion into one currency without showing the original amount and rate.

If an employer or insurer reimbursed an item, disclose it. The passenger should not recover the same hotel twice. Where another adult paid for the whole family, include proof and authority to receive the refund.

FAQ

Are meals payable before three hours?

Oman rules provide refreshments after two hours and a meal above three; EU/UK timing depends on route distance.

Can I book any hotel I choose?

Choose reasonable, suitable accommodation after requesting help. Luxury or distant options may be reduced without justification.

Does bad weather cancel hotel rights?

Usually not, although Oman law can limit force-majeure accommodation to three nights.

Are care costs deducted from fixed compensation?

No. They are separate remedies. Claim only actual unresolved expenses and avoid duplicate reimbursement.

Is a card statement enough?

It helps prove payment, but an itemised receipt and explanation are much stronger evidence of necessity.
