JetBlue compensation from Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin and other EU gateways

JetBlue departures from Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin and its other EU gateways can qualify for EU261 because every airline is covered when leaving the EU. A long arrival delay, short-notice cancellation or involuntary denied boarding can pay EUR 600 per eligible passenger on typical transatlantic distances. The reverse JetBlue service from the United States normally does not qualify.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

JetBlue's European network is partly seasonal and can change. Confirm airport, date and operating carrier on the ticket. The JetBlue EU-departure guide explains the general rule.

New York to Paris or AmsterdamNormally outside EU261 for JetBlue
Boston to DublinNormally outside EU261 for JetBlue

JetBlue announced a 2026 transatlantic program including year-round and seasonal services from Boston and New York to selected European cities. Route presence does not guarantee daily operation or a specific season. Avoid relying on an old flight number.

Why Dublin remains an EU departure

Dublin is in Ireland and EU261 applies. US preclearance can change immigration procedure but does not move the airport out of the EU. A JetBlue Dublin departure can therefore support EUR 600.

The same one-booking rule can carry protection through a US connection. Dublin-New York-Orlando on one ticket uses Orlando as final destination. Case C-561/20 confirms that a later US domestic sector can remain within the protected journey.

Separate self-transfer tickets are different. If the JetBlue ticket ends at New York and Orlando was bought separately, EU261 may not reach the second contract.

Paris and Amsterdam claims

For Paris-CDG or Amsterdam-Schiphol departure, final arrival at least three hours late normally triggers the delay test. Most direct US routes exceed 3,500 km, so EUR 600 is the standard band. Prompt rerouting that arrives within four hours can reduce it to EUR 300.

Cancellation fixed payment depends on 14-day notice and replacement timing. JetBlue must prove when notice was delivered. French or Dutch procedure can affect enforcement and limitation, so submit promptly and preserve the airport connection.

JetBlue's Contract of Carriage identifies a France mediation route for eligible unresolved disputes. Mediation conditions do not replace the initial direct claim.

Seasonal Madrid, Barcelona and Milan services

JetBlue's official 2026 announcement added Boston-Barcelona and Boston-Milan and described its broader seasonal network, including Madrid. When an EU departure actually operates, EU261 scope does not depend on whether the route is seasonal.

Check the actual operating carrier. A partner-operated flight sold under an interline itinerary follows that partner for fixed compensation. JetBlue's marketing page or loyalty partnership alone is insufficient.

If JetBlue cancels a seasonal route months ahead, the 14-day notice usually removes fixed EUR 600, but refund or rebooking remains. An alternative through another city should preserve reasonable final-destination travel.

Delay and connection examples

Paris-New York: door opens four hours late after ordinary aircraft maintenance. EUR 600 can apply per eligible passenger.

Amsterdam-Boston-Las Vegas: one booking misses the connection and reaches Las Vegas six hours late. EU261 can use the final arrival, even though the later flight is domestic.

Dublin-New York cancelled the day before: passenger can choose refund or rerouting, request care and test EUR 600 using cause and replacement schedule.

Boston-Milan delayed five hours: JetBlue's US departure normally falls outside EU261. DOT refund, JetBlue policy and proven losses remain possible.

Extraordinary circumstances and care

Severe weather, airport closure or ATC restrictions can remove fixed compensation if JetBlue proves the direct effect and reasonable measures. Routine technical faults, crew planning and ordinary aircraft rotation generally do not.

Meals, hotel and airport transport remain due during a covered wait even when the cause is extraordinary. If JetBlue does not provide them, keep itemised reasonable receipts. The JetBlue care-cost guide provides the format.

Airport and destination changes

Paris-CDG, Amsterdam-Schiphol and Dublin are specific ticketed airports. A diversion or reroute to another airport can require onward transport to the original point or agreed destination. Record actual ground arrival.

An added connection, changed airport or lower cabin can also support a US refund choice on the reverse direction if the passenger declines the significant change. Do not apply European fixed compensation to that inbound journey unless an EU operating carrier changes the analysis.

Claim evidence

Keep the original itinerary, first EU departure, all sectors, operating carrier, final door-opening time, cancellation notice, reason, rerouting and receipts. For seasonal services, preserve proof that the flight was confirmed on the travel date.

State one-booking status in the first paragraph. If a partner operated, direct the statutory request accordingly. Use the JetBlue codeshare guide for operator evidence.

If JetBlue does not resolve the request, the departure country can shape the next step. France, the Netherlands, Ireland, Spain and Italy have their own enforcement and court structures, while JetBlue's contract identifies a mediation option for qualifying French disputes. An authority complaint may support compliance without collecting the passenger's individual payment, so check the body's role and preserve national limitation. Translation is not usually required for the first clear English claim, but a local proceeding can impose language rules.

Date and current network caveat

This page was checked on 14 August 2026 using JetBlue's official 2026 network announcement. Airlines can change seasons, airports and routes. The legal departure rule is stable, but schedule facts must be verified for the individual flight.

The EU reform adopted in July 2026 is not applied here before its future legal application date.

FAQ

Can JetBlue owe EUR 600 from Paris?

Yes. A qualifying long-distance Paris departure operated by JetBlue can pay EUR 600 per eligible passenger.

Is Dublin covered despite US preclearance?

Yes. Dublin remains an EU departure and preclearance does not remove EU261.

Does a seasonal route have weaker rights?

No. When the EU departure operates, seasonal status does not reduce EU261 protection.

Is Boston to Amsterdam covered by EU261?

Normally not when JetBlue operates because the journey begins in the US and JetBlue is not an EU carrier.

Can a later US connection be included?

Yes, when it forms one booking from the EU and final arrival meets the statutory threshold.
