JetBlue family, group and accessibility compensation claims

JetBlue statutory compensation is generally calculated per eligible passenger, not per family or reservation. Fare-paying children can receive the same EUR 250-600 or GBP 220-520 as adults on protected journeys. Group claims need authority and passenger-level evidence. Accessibility failures, mobility-device damage and family separation should be documented as distinct issues rather than hidden inside a delay request.

Check your case in the form

Enter your route, date and type of disruption. We will check whether your case qualifies for a claim under EU 261/2004 or UK261.

Step 1 of 813% completed

What happened to your flight?

Claim up to €600 for a delayed or cancelled flight.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

First confirm route direction in the JetBlue compensation overview, then create one row for each traveller.

Per-passenger calculation

TravellerFixed compensation position
Adult on eligible paid ticketFull statutory amount
Child on eligible paid fareGenerally full statutory amount
Child on publicly available award ticketCan qualify
Lap infant travelling free without reserved seatRequires closer ticket analysis
Companion on separate ticketAssessed under that ticket's route and event

A family of two adults and two fare-paying children on a qualifying Paris-New York delay can start at four times EUR 600. Ticket price and age do not reduce the fixed band.

Care expenses are not multiplied automatically. One shared hotel room is one expense, while meals can be listed for each person.

Authority for group submissions

One organiser can often submit the initial request, but JetBlue, a dispute body or court may require authorisation from other adults. Keep passenger names exactly as ticketed, individual e-ticket numbers and signatures where requested.

Do not direct an adult passenger's compensation to another person's bank account without documented authority. For children, a parent or legal guardian should state the relationship and provide only necessary proof through a secure channel.

Group bookings can split during rebooking. Save a replacement boarding pass and final arrival for every traveller because some may arrive at different times.

Family seating and separation

US rules require airlines to seat children aged 13 or under next to an accompanying adult at no additional fee, subject to listed conditions. JetBlue's own procedures and fare seating rules should be followed before travel. Ask gate staff promptly if a disruption breaks the original seating plan.

Seat separation is not automatically EU261 fixed compensation. A paid seat that was not delivered can be refunded. If separation causes a documented accessibility or safety issue, request the Complaint Resolution Official.

During overnight rerouting, ask JetBlue to keep minor children with their responsible adult. Record any proposal that would split the party across flights or hotels and request a practical alternative.

Accessibility assistance

Passengers should request assistance as early as practical and preserve confirmation, but airlines retain disability-law duties even when notice is shorter. At a US airport or on a flight to or from the United States, the Air Carrier Access Act and DOT rules prohibit disability discrimination.

If assistance fails:

  • note when and where it was requested;
  • identify the service promised;
  • record waiting and transfer times;
  • ask for JetBlue's Complaint Resolution Official;
  • document missed connection or injury consequence;
  • retain accessible transport or equipment receipts;
  • file a DOT accessibility complaint where appropriate.

An accessibility complaint is separate from EU261 delay compensation. The same event can support both if, for example, failed assistance contributes to a missed protected connection.

Wheelchair and assistive-device damage

Report a damaged or missing device immediately. Keep make, model, serial number, original purchase evidence, condition, repair estimate and photos. Ask for a safe temporary replacement suited to the passenger's functional needs.

For domestic US travel, airline liability for a lost or damaged assistive device can reach its original purchase price rather than the ordinary checked-baggage limit. International carriage can involve Montreal Convention valuation and other mandatory accessibility rules.

Do not let the device claim wait behind an ordinary suitcase file. The JetBlue damaged-baggage guide lists short notice periods.

Care for families and vulnerable passengers

EU261 and UK261 care duties take reasonable needs into account. During a long wait, tell JetBlue about infant food, medication, accessible accommodation or safe transport. Keep itemised receipts if appropriate help is unavailable.

A higher cost can be reasonable where an ordinary hotel is inaccessible or a family cannot safely split. Explain why at the time, not only after reimbursement is refused.

JetBlue's US care commitments depend on controllability, but disability obligations are not erased by weather. Ask for operational assistance and accessibility support separately.

Missed connections and split rerouting

One protected booking beginning in the EU or UK can use final arrival for each passenger. If JetBlue reroutes two family members to arrive four hours late and two to arrive seven hours late, all may qualify, but their timing evidence differs.

Do not volunteer only one family member's seat during overbooking without confirming the rest of the itinerary and custody arrangements. A voluntary offer follows negotiated terms; involuntary denied boarding has statutory payment.

Children on award or package tickets

Publicly available TrueBlue award tickets can qualify for EU261 or UK261. Package booking also does not reduce passenger-level fixed amounts. Preserve each ticket value and package component to avoid confusing airline compensation with hotel or transfer refund.

A free infant may still have care and safety rights even where fixed compensation eligibility is uncertain. Analyse the ticket rather than making a blanket exclusion.

Evidence pack

Create a table with passenger, ticket, age category, operator, final arrival, requested amount and payment authority. Add assistance confirmations, device records, seat receipts, hotel rooms and meals on separate lines.

Submit sensitive medical information only where necessary and through official channels. State functional need and service failure without disclosing unrelated history.

This guide was checked on 14 August 2026. Accessibility and seating rules should be verified for the actual itinerary and jurisdiction.

FAQ

Do children receive the same EU261 amount as adults?

Fare-paying children and eligible award-ticket passengers generally receive the full fixed amount per person.

Can one parent claim for everyone?

An initial group submission is possible, but authority from other adults and proof of guardianship may be required.

Is family seat separation worth EUR 600?

Not by itself. Refund a paid service and pursue any accessibility or consumer complaint under the correct rule.

What if JetBlue damages a wheelchair?

Report immediately, request the Complaint Resolution Official and document original value, repair and a suitable temporary device.

Can accessibility failure support a missed-connection claim?

Yes, where it contributes to qualifying final delay on one protected booking and the facts establish responsibility.
