JetBlue Customer Bill of Rights compensation and TrueBlue points

JetBlue's Customer Bill of Rights can provide a benefit after a controllable delay, cancellation or onboard ground delay, but it is not EU261, UK261 or a general US cash-compensation law. The published schedule still expresses event bands in US dollars, while JetBlue states that qualifying compensation beginning in early 2026 is issued as TrueBlue points. The passenger's TrueBlue number must be attached to the reservation before departure.

What happened to your flight?

Claim up to €600 for a delayed or cancelled flight.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

Passengers departing Europe or the UK should first compare the statutory claim. JetBlue says those passengers may request EC261 or UK261 compensation in lieu of its contractual benefit. See the JetBlue rights comparison before accepting an award as final settlement.

Current departure-delay schedule

JetBlue's Customer Service Plan lists the following bands for a controllable departure delay caused by JetBlue:

Departure delayPublished Bill of Rights value
3 hours to 3 hours 59 minutesUSD 50
4 hours to 4 hours 59 minutesUSD 100
5 hours to 5 hours 59 minutesUSD 150
6 hours or moreUSD 200

These values should not be described as a guaranteed cash transfer in 2026. JetBlue's help material says the award is issued as TrueBlue points for eligible flights beginning early in the year. It does not authorize a claimant to invent a fixed cents-per-point conversion.

The delay must be controllable by JetBlue. Routine maintenance, crew planning or another internal operational matter can fit. Dangerous weather, air traffic restrictions or airport closure usually will not. Ask JetBlue which category it applied rather than assuming that every delay qualifies.

Cancellation benefit

The plan describes a controllable cancellation benefit when JetBlue cannot provide alternative transportation within one hour of scheduled departure:

Timing of controllable cancellationPublished value
Within four hours before scheduled departureUSD 50
After scheduled departureUSD 100

This is separate from the passenger's refund right. If JetBlue cancels and the passenger declines alternative transportation, US DOT rules can require return of the unused fare to the original form of payment. Points should not replace that refund without the passenger's choice.

EU261 and UK261 short-notice cancellation claims use different notice and rerouting tests and can be substantially higher. A covered long-distance departure may reach EUR 600 or GBP 520. JetBlue's plan says the passenger uses the statutory option in lieu of the contractual benefit, so preserve the offer terms.

Onboard ground-delay bands

JetBlue publishes separate amounts for time spent onboard while the aircraft remains on the ground. They are not interchangeable with final arrival delay.

For a ground delay before departure, the current schedule states USD 100 for 3-4:59, USD 175 for 5-5:59 and USD 250 for 6 hours or more. For a ground delay after arrival, it states USD 50 for 1-1:59, USD 125 for 2-2:59 and USD 200 for 3 hours or more.

Record when the aircraft doors closed or opened, whether passengers could leave and whether the event was before departure or after landing. A flight can have both a long ground delay and a later arrival delay, but award terms determine whether benefits accumulate.

TrueBlue account condition

JetBlue tells passengers to attach their TrueBlue number to the reservation before departure. A newly created account after the event may not satisfy that term. Check the booking confirmation, profile or boarding pass and retain a screenshot that identifies both the account and reservation.

For direct bookings, JetBlue says eligible compensation may be handled automatically, with an email within seven days. A booking made through an agency or another airline may lack the contact or loyalty data needed for automatic processing. JetBlue instructs passengers who booked elsewhere to contact it after at least seven days if the award has not appeared.

Automatic processing is convenient but does not prove the number of points is correct. Compare event type, controllability and duration with the published schedule. Save the email and account activity.

Assistance is not the points award

JetBlue separately commits to meals, hotel and ground transport for qualifying controllable disruption. Its plan refers to a USD 12 meal voucher after a controllable cancellation and a wait of at least three hours. When an eligible overnight stay is required and direct accommodation is unavailable, JetBlue asks for valid receipts within ten days.

Reasonable expense reimbursement replaces assistance the carrier should have provided; it is not the same as a Bill of Rights inconvenience benefit. Itemise meals, hotel and transport separately. The care-cost guide explains the evidence.

On EU261 and UK261 departures, statutory care can remain due during extraordinary weather even when JetBlue's controllability-based points benefit does not apply.

Compare contractual and statutory outcomes

Paris-New York, four-hour arrival delay: EU261 may pay EUR 600 per eligible passenger if the cause is ordinary operations. A JetBlue points award should be compared with that statutory amount and any settlement wording.

New York-Paris, four-hour controllable departure delay: EU261 normally does not apply to JetBlue in this direction. The departure-delay band and account condition become more important, together with care and any proven loss.

London-Boston cancellation after scheduled departure: UK261 may provide GBP 520 subject to cause and notice. JetBlue's contractual schedule lists a lower cancellation value and says UK-origin passengers may use the statutory route in lieu.

Thunderstorm delay from New York: the event may be non-controllable, so no contractual points award may arise. A refund can still apply if the trip is cancelled or significantly changed and alternatives are declined.

How to challenge a missing award

Provide the booking reference, flight, date, scheduled departure, actual departure, event category, reason given and TrueBlue number attached before travel. For a ground delay, include door and movement times. Ask JetBlue to identify whether it classified the cause as controllable.

Do not present the plan's USD table as proof of a cash debt. Request the published benefit and a calculation of points under the current terms. If the journey started in the EU or UK, state that a statutory claim is being made instead where appropriate.

This page reflects JetBlue materials checked on 14 August 2026. Carrier program terms can change, so preserve the version applicable to the flight date.

FAQ

Does JetBlue pay the Bill of Rights benefit in cash?

JetBlue says qualifying benefits for flights beginning in early 2026 are issued as TrueBlue points, despite the published value bands being shown in dollars.

Can I add my TrueBlue number after the delay?

The current condition says the account must be attached before departure, so adding it only after the event may not qualify.

Is weather eligible for JetBlue points compensation?

Usually not where JetBlue classifies the event as outside its control. Refund or statutory care rights may still exist.

Can I receive points and EUR 600?

Do not assume both. JetBlue states that EU-origin passengers may claim EC261 in lieu of its plan, and acceptance wording should be reviewed.

How soon should an automatic award arrive?

JetBlue says direct-booking passengers may receive an email within seven days; passengers booked elsewhere may need to contact the airline after that period.
