Iberojet: EUR 250, 400 or 600 per passenger
The Iberojet compensation figure comes from the route, not the ticket price. Under current EU261, the fixed bands are EUR 250, EUR 400 and EUR 600 for each eligible passenger. A child with a paid, confirmed seat is not assigned a smaller percentage because the fare was cheaper, and a business-class passenger does not receive more because the fare was expensive. Before selecting a band, establish coverage, operating carrier, relevant distance and final arrival.

The law stated here is current on 9 September 2026. The EU reform adopted in July 2026 has deferred application. Its future provisions—including a nine-month claim period—must not be applied to present claims.
Start with direction and the airline that actually operated
Iberojet is the brand used by Spanish Evelop, normally identified by E9, and Portuguese Orbest, identified by 6O. Both are EU carriers. Their flights departing Madrid, Lisbon or another EU airport can engage EU261. Their own flights from a third country into the EU can also be covered because of that EU status.
Read the original ticket's operated-by line. A package organiser, agency or codeshare marketing airline does not answer who performed the flight. Where a non-EU partner operated an inbound sector, landing in Europe may not be sufficient. UK261 is also a separate regime and is not activated merely by an English booking or a British passenger.
Apply the current distance bands accurately
EUR 250 applies to flights of 1,500 kilometres or less. EUR 400 covers intra-EU flights over 1,500 kilometres and other covered flights between 1,500 and 3,500 kilometres. EUR 600 applies to other covered flights over 3,500 kilometres. The distance is normally the great-circle distance between the relevant origin and final destination, not kilometres actually flown during diversions.
This is why many protected Iberojet Caribbean services invite the EUR 600 band, while a long intra-EU island journey can remain at EUR 400. Do not estimate from flight duration. For a through journey on one transport contract, the relevant final destination may determine the measurement; separately ticketed self-transfers are not automatically joined.
In qualifying rerouting cases, EU261 permits the carrier to reduce compensation by 50% if arrival remains within specified limits: two hours for the EUR 250 category, three hours for the EUR 400 category and four hours for the EUR 600 category. The mere fact that a reroute was accepted does not justify halving the award.
Confirm the event qualifies before multiplying
For delay, final arrival normally needs to be at least three hours late. For cancellation, timing of notice and the replacement schedule matter. Involuntary denied boarding has its own conditions. Compensation is calculated per eligible passenger, so a family of four in a valid EUR 600 case may claim EUR 2,400.
That multiplication does not apply to expenses. One EUR 180 hotel room shared by the family remains EUR 180. Refunds follow the unused ticket value, and baggage damage follows proven loss under Montreal. Presenting all figures as one “compensation” total makes an otherwise sound claim difficult to review.
Iberojet may avoid the fixed amount by proving extraordinary circumstances caused the event and that all reasonable measures were taken. A generic “weather” or “operational” label does not establish those elements.
Worked calculation: Lisbon to Punta Cana
Jordan, Priya and their twelve-year-old travel on a 6O-operated Lisbon–Punta Cana flight. They reach the gate at destination five hours 20 minutes late. Lisbon is an EU departure, Orbest is the operating EU carrier, and the route exceeds 3,500 kilometres. Assuming the other conditions are met and no successful extraordinary-circumstances defence exists, the fixed calculation is three passengers multiplied by EUR 600: EUR 1,800.
They also paid EUR 74 for meals after assistance was not provided. That is listed separately at actual cost, supported by itemised receipts. They cannot add a ticket refund because they used the transport. If a suitcase arrived two days later, essential replacement purchases form a separate Montreal baggage file rather than increasing the EUR 600 band.
Had rerouting delivered them three hours 30 minutes late after a cancellation, the long-distance reduction rule could become relevant. Iberojet would need to state the basis for any reduction; it should not silently pay half.
Evidence and presentation prevent arithmetic disputes
Attach the original itinerary, operated-by wording, booking confirmation, boarding passes and proof of actual final arrival. State the origin, contractual final destination, distance band and calculation on separate lines. For children, include proof that they held a confirmed reservation and travelled; do not disclose unnecessary identity data.
Use Iberojet's form with the booking locator and surname, and retain a complete copy of every field and upload. If rejected, ask whether the dispute concerns territory, operator, distance, arrival, notice or cause. Spanish or Portuguese escalation depends on the event and departure rather than the currency in which the holiday was sold.
Keep other monetary rights in their own columns.
Reimbursement or rerouting resolves transport after cancellation or a sufficiently long delay. Care covers reasonable meals, communications, accommodation and transfers while waiting. Package rights may produce a price reduction from the organiser. Montreal governs proven baggage damage. None sets the fixed EU261 distance band, and the same loss cannot be recovered twice.

Questions about Iberojet compensation amounts
Is every Iberojet long-haul claim worth EUR 600?
No. Distance identifies the band, but coverage, qualifying disruption and any extraordinary-circumstances defence must also be assessed.
Is compensation based on the package price?
No. Fixed compensation uses statutory bands. Refunds and package price reductions are different calculations.
Do children receive the same fixed amount?
An eligible child travelling on a confirmed paid reservation is generally assessed under the same band; the facts of the booking still need checking.
Can Iberojet automatically reduce EUR 600 to EUR 300?
No. A 50% reduction depends on qualifying rerouting and arrival within the statutory four-hour limit for that band.
Does the new nine-month limit apply now?
No. The July 2026 reform's application is deferred, so that future period is not current law as at 9 September 2026.
