easyJet holidays disruption: separate package rights from the flight claim
Reviewed on 10 August 2026. An easyJet holidays booking can create two parallel sets of rights: package-travel remedies against the organiser and EC261 or UK261 duties against the airline operating the flight. Identify the company on the confirmation and ATOL certificate, preserve every package component, and avoid recovering the same loss twice.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:
Start with the contract
| Booking type | Document to check | Likely route after disruption |
|---|---|---|
| Flight plus hotel sold as easyJet holidays | Package confirmation and ATOL certificate | easyJet holidays Limited and operating airline |
| Flight and car booked together through easyJet | Package certificate | Named organiser and operating airline |
| Standalone easyJet flight | Airline confirmation | Airline passenger-rights process |
| Flight and hotel bought separately | Two contracts | Each supplier, insurance and airline rights |
| Package bought from another agent | That organiser's certificate | Organiser plus actual operating airline |
easyJet's current protection page identifies easyJet holidays Limited under ATOL number 11694. It identifies qualifying flight-plus-car packages under ATOL number 11446 through easyJet Airline Company Limited. Do not assume the easyJet name means the same contracting entity in every purchase.
ATOL protects against organiser insolvency for covered UK bookings; it is not a general compensation scheme for every delay. Package travel law instead governs proper performance, alternatives, price reduction, assistance and damages. EC261 or UK261 governs airline cancellation, long delay, care, rerouting and fixed compensation where its conditions are met.
Who should solve the immediate problem
During an easyJet holidays trip, contact the holidays support route shown in the booking. The package can include hotel, transfer and other components that the airline app cannot see. easyJet holidays' current disruption guidance specifically warns package customers that the ordinary airline self-service accommodation route may not manage their package needs.
At the same time, preserve the operating flight record. The airline still owes passenger rights for the flight. Ask who operated it, whether it was cancelled, what rerouting was offered and when passengers reached the final airport.
If a cancellation makes the package impossible, the organiser should assess the trip as a whole. A replacement flight two days later may be legally relevant to airline rerouting but still remove a substantial share of a three-night package. Require a written proposal covering the hotel, transfer and revised duration, not only a new boarding pass.
Before the holiday starts
Package rules can allow termination without a fee where unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances at the destination significantly affect performance or carriage there. The factual threshold is higher than anxiety or a personal change of plan.
When the organiser makes a significant change to an essential package term, the traveller may have a right to accept the change, take a substitute package or terminate with reimbursement under the applicable conditions. Read the notice and respond by its stated deadline.
easyJet holidays currently says that if it must cancel the holiday under its conditions, it returns the booking to the original payment method, while amounts paid using holidays credit return as credit. Passenger-initiated cancellation follows different charges and credit conditions. Keep those cases distinct.
An airline cancelling one flight does not always mean the organiser has cancelled the whole package. Ask for explicit package status before independently cancelling accommodation or transfers.
During the holiday
The organiser is responsible for performance of the package services. Report a non-conformity promptly and give it a reasonable chance to remedy the issue. Record unavailable accommodation, missed transfer, reduced nights or substitute arrangements with photographs, messages and invoices.
Where a significant part cannot be supplied, suitable alternatives may be required without extra cost. If the alternative is lower quality, a price reduction may be due. If the organiser does not remedy a problem that needs immediate action, reasonable self-help costs can be relevant, but contact evidence and proportionality matter.
The organiser also has an assistance duty when a traveller is in difficulty. That can operate alongside airline care. Do not pay twice for the same hotel and then claim the full amount from both businesses.
The airline claim remains separate
An easyJet-operated flight departing the UK normally falls under UK261; an EU departure falls under EC261. A cancellation within 14 days, arrival delay of at least three hours or involuntary denied boarding can create fixed compensation unless an exception applies.
The payment belongs to each eligible passenger and does not disappear because the flight formed part of a package. Package price reduction compensates reduced package value. Fixed flight compensation addresses the regulatory disruption. Both may exist, subject to rules preventing duplicate recovery for the same damage.
For example, a family loses the first two nights of a seven-night package after an easyJet cancellation caused by an ordinary operational issue. They may pursue UK261 or EC261 fixed compensation from the operating airline, reasonable care while waiting, and a package remedy for hotel nights and services not supplied. They should disclose payments and avoid claiming one hotel invoice twice.
Use the easyJet cancellation guide for the flight test and the easyJet care guide for waiting costs.
ATOL does not decide disruption compensation
An ATOL certificate is essential proof of financial protection and booking scope. It helps if the protected organiser fails financially and can explain which services are covered. It does not replace a normal complaint when the organiser remains trading but the holiday was poorly performed.
Check the certificate immediately after booking. Names, passengers, supplier and protected components should match. easyJet's page notes that protection differs by booking country and residence, with separate arrangements for some non-UK sales. Never promise ATOL cover without inspecting the actual certificate.
Evidence and claim structure
Create three schedules:
- Package performance: missing nights, hotel downgrade, transfers and other services.
- Flight rights: cancellation or delay, notice, reason, rerouting and arrival time.
- Out-of-pocket expense: each receipt, payer, purpose and amount already reimbursed.
Attach the package confirmation, ATOL certificate, flight booking, organiser messages, revised itinerary, hotel record and bank evidence. State the remedy sought from each respondent.
If easyJet holidays offers credit, compare it with any right to money and its conditions. Holidays credit is not the same product as an easyJet flight voucher. The easyJet refund-versus-voucher guide explains the airline choice; package credit must be assessed under the holiday terms.
FAQ
Is every easyJet flight an easyJet holidays package?
No. A flight-only booking remains an airline contract. Check for a package confirmation and ATOL certificate rather than relying on branding.
Who pays flight compensation on an easyJet holiday?
The operating airline is responsible for EC261 or UK261 fixed compensation. The package organiser handles package-performance remedies.
Does ATOL pay compensation for a delayed flight?
No. ATOL is principally insolvency protection for covered bookings. Flight disruption and package performance use separate legal routes.
Can I claim both package remedies and UK261 compensation?
Potentially yes, because they address different rights. You cannot recover the same expense or loss twice and should disclose related payments.
What if easyJet holidays cancels the whole trip?
Follow the organiser's written options and current booking conditions. Its guidance says organiser cancellation produces a full refund to the original method, with holidays-credit payments returned as credit.
