Air France disruption at Paris-CDG: immediate steps and claims
Short answer: after an Air France delay or cancellation at Paris-CDG, first preserve the original itinerary, confirm the operating carrier and choose whether you still want to travel. Ask Air France for rerouting and care before self-booking. Fixed compensation is assessed later using final arrival, cancellation notice and cause; airport disruption alone does not prove or defeat the claim.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:
This article uses information checked on 13 August 2026. Paris-CDG terminal assignments and wayfinding are operational data, so live airport and Air France instructions always take priority.
The first 15 minutes
- Screenshot the original and updated Air France itinerary.
- Confirm whether the flight is delayed, cancelled or moved to a different service.
- Check “operated by” on the ticket and boarding pass.
- Verify the gate on airport screens or the Air France app.
- Decide whether the objective is earliest travel, later travel or reimbursement.
Do not cancel the reservation yourself in panic. A passenger-initiated cancellation can be processed under fare conditions instead of airline-disruption rights. Use the options presented for the affected flight and capture what Air France offers.
Delay, cancellation and diversion need different choices
| Event | Immediate focus |
|---|---|
| Delay | care, connection protection and actual final arrival |
| Cancellation | refund or rerouting choice, notice and alternative schedule |
| Missed connection | one-ticket status and confirmed onward replacement |
| Diversion to another airport | transport to the booked destination and final arrival |
| Gate or terminal change | live wayfinding and boarding evidence |
An app notification saying “flight changed” does not itself classify the event. Save old and new flight numbers, dates, airports and departure times.
Ask Air France for effective rerouting
If the flight is cancelled and the passenger still needs to travel, request rerouting at the earliest opportunity in comparable conditions. That can involve an Air France service, a SkyTeam partner or, where substantially earlier and reasonable, another airline or rail.
State the required final destination, not merely “next flight.” A replacement to a nearby airport may be practical only if Air France also addresses onward ground transport. A downgrade should be recorded and claimed separately.
Before buying an alternative, record the options Air France offered, available seats visible at the time and attempts to contact the airline. A necessary self-booked ticket is easier to recover when the passenger gave Air France an opportunity and chose a proportionate option.
Care while waiting at CDG
EU261 care can include meals and refreshments in reasonable relation to the wait, communication, hotel accommodation when an overnight stay becomes necessary and transport between airport and hotel. It can remain due during weather, ATC restrictions or other extraordinary circumstances.
If Air France issues vouchers, check where and when they can be used. If no effective assistance is available, buy reasonable essentials and keep itemised receipts. Record why a particular hotel or transfer was necessary, especially late at night or for a family or disabled traveller.
Alcohol, luxury rooms and unrelated Paris expenses are difficult to justify. Reasonableness depends on availability, safety and the wait, not the cheapest theoretical option after the fact. The care-cost guide contains a receipt schedule.
Moving through Paris-CDG
Air France’s connection guidance directs passengers to check live gates on official screens, kiosks, website or app and follow the airport’s connection signage. Security and border controls depend on origin and onward destination.
Do not hard-code a terminal from an old article. Air France and SkyTeam commonly use areas within Terminal 2, but assignment changes with flight, operations and the planned evolution of airport signage. A bus transfer or remote stand can add time.
If the incoming flight is late, preserve its door-opening time and queue records. If the passenger reaches the gate after it closes, note the actual route through the airport and any assistance requested. This evidence distinguishes an impossible protected transfer from lateness unrelated to Air France.
Airline cause or airport cause?
The logo at CDG does not decide responsibility. Examples include:
| Event | Likely evidence owner |
|---|---|
| Air France aircraft fault | airline maintenance and rotation records |
| Air France crew or scheduling issue | airline operational records |
| French ATC restriction | DSNA or network flow information and airline response |
| airport security closure | airport or authority statement |
| severe weather | official observations, restrictions and operational records |
| baggage-system failure | airport/handler facts plus carrier baggage duties |
For fixed compensation, Air France must prove an extraordinary circumstance and reasonable measures. A genuine airport event can be extraordinary, but the airline should still explain the connection to this flight and its rerouting response.
Evidence to collect before leaving
- original and replacement boarding passes;
- baggage tags and any PIR;
- photos of information screens showing time and status;
- written Air France notices and cause descriptions;
- hotel, meal, transfer and alternative-ticket receipts;
- actual arrival time at the final destination;
- names or locations of service points contacted, without recording staff improperly.
Ask for a written passenger-rights notice. Air France’s public notice states the cash and enhanced voucher compensation bands and describes care, reimbursement and downgrade rights.
Calculate after final arrival
Departure delay at CDG does not by itself set EUR 250, 400 or 600. Measure final arrival and classify the covered journey. On a one-ticket connection, the endpoint can be beyond Paris. An extraordinary cause can remove fixed compensation but not necessarily care or rerouting.
For cancellation, record when notice arrived and compare the replacement’s departure and arrival with the statutory windows. For a diverted flight, measure when the passenger reaches the booked airport or agreed nearby destination after ground transfer.
The Air France delay guide and cancellation guide provide the separate tests.
File one organised request
After travel, submit through Air France’s claims route. Identify CDG as the disruption point but state the complete itinerary. Separate fixed compensation, ticket value, alternative transport and care expenses.
If several passengers are involved, list each ticket and amount. Attach a numbered receipt schedule. Save the case reference and use the existing-case tracker for updates.
Where the underlying event falls within French enforcement competence, DGAC can receive a regulatory report after prior airline complaint and its published waiting period. Consumer mediation or court proceedings serve different purposes.

FAQ
Should I queue at an Air France desk or use the app?
Use whichever produces effective confirmed rerouting fastest, and preserve both digital offers and desk requests. Live airport screens remain important for gate information.
Can I book my own flight from CDG?
Sometimes, where Air France fails to provide timely lawful rerouting. Ask first where practical, document available alternatives and choose a reasonable option.
Does a CDG weather cancellation still include hotel care?
It can. Extraordinary weather may defeat fixed compensation while care and the refund-or-rerouting choice remain due.
Is Terminal 2E always used for Air France long-haul flights?
Do not rely on that assumption. Operational assignments and airport naming can change. Follow the boarding pass, live Air France information and official airport screens.
Which authority handles an Air France cancellation at CDG?
DGAC is the French enforcement body for departures from France, but its regulatory role is separate from an individual payment decision by a mediator or court.
