Air Arabia Maroc cancelled flight: refund, rerouting and compensation

When Air Arabia Maroc cancels a flight covered by EC261 or UK261, the passenger normally chooses between reimbursement and rerouting. A separate fixed payment may be due if notice was given less than 14 days before departure and the carrier cannot rely on a qualifying replacement schedule or proven extraordinary circumstances. A direct 3O cancellation from Morocco to the EU or UK normally falls outside those fixed-sum regimes.

Do not let a travel-credit screen collapse every remedy into one option. Save the original schedule and cancellation message first, then decide whether the journey still has value.

An EU departure operated by Air Arabia Maroc can be protected even though 3O is Moroccan. A direct flight beginning in Morocco normally is not. For UK departures, use UK261 and sterling amounts. The Air Arabia Maroc compensation overview contains the complete direction matrix.

Refund or rerouting is the first choice

Reimbursement is appropriate when the unused journey no longer serves its purpose. It should cover the unused ticket and, where a protected multi-sector journey has lost its purpose, may include used parts and a return to the first departure point. Once a passenger knowingly chooses a full refund, the airline is generally no longer expected to transport that person to the destination.

Rerouting is for a traveller who still needs to arrive. The legal choice is not restricted automatically to the next Air Arabia flight if a materially earlier reasonable alternative exists, although availability, comparable conditions and the circumstances matter. Keep screenshots of options visible when the decision was made. If the passenger chooses travel at a later convenient date, seat availability becomes relevant.

A voucher or account credit should be accepted only voluntarily. Read its expiry, transferability, route restrictions and currency. Capture the screen showing whether cash reimbursement was also offered. The refund, credit and rerouting guide compares the practical consequences in detail.

When short notice can produce compensation

Notice at least 14 days before the scheduled departure normally removes cancellation compensation, although reimbursement or rerouting remains. With seven to thirteen days' notice, the replacement schedule is measured against the statutory departure and arrival windows. With less than seven days' notice, narrower windows apply.

Use the first provable notice, not the date on which the passenger happened to read an old message. Save email headers, app alerts and messages from the booking agent. If an OTA sent the notice late after receiving it earlier, identify when the carrier informed the intermediary and when information reached the traveller; do not silently assume either date resolves the legal question.

The potential EC261 amount is EUR 250 or EUR 400 for most direct Europe-Morocco routes, depending on airport distance. UK departures generally use GBP 220 or GBP 350 for the corresponding bands. Each eligible passenger is assessed separately.

Cancellation cause and reasonable measures

An external air traffic closure, unsafe weather, security event or airport shutdown can defeat fixed compensation when it actually caused the cancellation and could not be avoided despite reasonable measures. The carrier must do more than name a category. Ask what restriction applied to this airport and flight, when it applied, and what alternative aircraft, timing or routing was considered.

Ordinary technical defects, internal scheduling choices and resource shortages often remain within airline operations. A knock-on cancellation from an earlier service requires a traceable causal chain. The farther removed the event is, the more important it becomes to explain why the carrier could not recover the schedule.

Care can remain due during rerouting even when the cancellation was extraordinary. Reasonable meals, communications, necessary accommodation and airport-hotel transfers are not part of the fixed payment. Save itemised receipts and evidence of the wait.

Replacement travel bought by the passenger

Contact Air Arabia first when reasonably possible and record what was offered. If no workable rerouting is provided and travel is time-sensitive, document available alternatives before buying. A replacement should be proportionate to the original journey; an expensive cabin chosen without necessity will be harder to justify.

Keep search screenshots with times and prices, chat logs, telephone records and the new receipt. State why waiting for the carrier's option would not meet the earliest-opportunity obligation. The replacement-transport guide explains how to present mitigation evidence.

Booking through an agent

Fixed compensation normally follows the operating airline, not the website that sold the ticket. Ticket reimbursement can pass through the party controlling the payment and ticket document. A qualifying package holiday adds obligations for the organiser, but a flight plus an unrelated hotel bought in separate transactions is not automatically a package.

Ask the agent for the airline record locator, ticket number and original fare receipt. Do not accept a circular response in which the airline says only the agent can pay compensation while the agent says only the airline is responsible. Identify the remedy before selecting the respondent.

Cancellation evidence file

Preserve the original confirmation, cancellation notice, notice timestamp, all replacement itineraries and the operator for each. Add the passengers, amounts requested, refund or rerouting choice and receipts. If the trip was abandoned, explain which parts were unused and why any completed sector ceased to serve the original purpose.

Submit fixed compensation separately from reimbursement and expenses where the form provides different categories. Keep a local copy and case reference. Rules were checked on 26 August 2026; the July 2026 EU reform has been adopted but is not yet applicable.

FAQ

Must I accept Air Arabia travel credit after cancellation?

No. On a covered cancellation, reimbursement should remain an option. Accept credit only after checking expiry, restrictions and whether it meets your needs.

Does accepting rerouting waive fixed compensation?

Not automatically. Rerouting solves the transport problem; fixed compensation depends separately on coverage, notice timing, replacement times and cause.

Is compensation due when notice arrived 15 days before departure?

Normally not under the short-notice cancellation rule, although reimbursement or rerouting rights can still apply.

What if weather caused the cancellation?

Fixed compensation may be excluded if the airline proves the weather's effect and reasonable measures. Care and the refund-or-rerouting choice can remain available.

Who refunds a ticket bought through an OTA?

The seller or airline controlling the ticket payment may process the refund, while a statutory compensation claim normally goes to the operating carrier.
