Air Arabia Maroc flight compensation: delays, cancellations and refunds

An Air Arabia Maroc flight operated under code 3O can qualify for EUR 250 or EUR 400 per passenger when it leaves the European Union and reaches its destination at least three hours late, is cancelled at short notice, or involves involuntary denied boarding. A direct return operated by 3O from Morocco to the EU normally falls outside EC261 because Air Arabia Maroc is a Moroccan carrier. The flight direction is therefore the first test, not the ticket price or passenger nationality.

Check your case in the form

Enter your route, date and type of disruption. We will check whether your case qualifies for a claim under EU 261/2004 or UK261.

What happened to your flight?

Claim up to €600 for a delayed or cancelled flight.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

Enter the actual departure and destination in the flight compensation calculator, then add the carrier shown beside "operated by", the original schedule and the real arrival time. A return booking must be split into its individual flights before entitlement is assessed.

Buying both directions together, paying in euros or living in Europe does not extend EC261 to a flight that starts in Morocco and is operated by a non-EU airline. The dedicated Europe-Morocco direction guide explains the territorial rule and the special position of a protected connecting itinerary.

Disruptions that can create a fixed payment

A delay claim normally depends on arrival, rather than the time shown when the aircraft left the stand. At least one door must open and passengers must be permitted to leave before legal arrival occurs. Where several flights form one protected booking, lateness at the last ticketed destination may control the claim. Separate tickets usually break that analysis.

Cancellation starts with a travel choice. A passenger may generally select reimbursement for the unused journey or rerouting at the earliest reasonable opportunity, and may choose later travel subject to availability. Fixed compensation is a different question. Notice given at least 14 days before departure normally removes that additional payment; shorter notice requires the replacement timetable and reason to be tested.

Involuntary denied boarding can also produce compensation when the traveller had a confirmed reservation, valid documents and arrived by the stated check-in or gate deadline. Volunteering for a voucher is a negotiated arrangement instead. A passenger should record whether volunteers were requested and should read the payment and replacement-flight terms before agreeing.

Why most direct amounts are EUR 250 or EUR 400

Great-circle distance of the covered journeyEC261 amount per eligible passenger
Up to 1,500 kmEUR 250
More than 1,500 km and up to 3,500 kmEUR 400
More than 3,500 km between the EU and a non-EU countryEUR 600

Direct Europe-Morocco routes sit on both sides of the 1,500 km boundary, depending on the exact airport pair. A short southern European route to northern Morocco may fall in the EUR 250 band, while a longer departure from northern Europe may fall in the EUR 400 band. City names and scheduled flight time are not a distance calculation. Use airport coordinates and the full protected itinerary.

The sum is assessed for each eligible passenger, not once per booking. Four ticketed family members can therefore have four claims. A promotional Basic fare does not reduce the statutory amount. An infant without a paid seat requires a closer look at the transport conditions and fare actually issued.

The Air Arabia name covers several carriers

Air Arabia Maroc SA uses IATA code 3O. The same website also sells services associated with Air Arabia PJSC G9, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi 3L, Air Arabia Egypt E5 and Air Arabia DMM 4P. These companies do not become one legal operator because they share colours, a loyalty account or a booking interface. Royal Air Maroc is another airline again and uses code AT.

Read the e-ticket and boarding pass for the operated-by line. If a replacement service is arranged after cancellation, record its operator too. The Air Arabia operating-carrier guide shows how to direct fixed compensation, ticket repayment and baggage correspondence to the correct party.

Cause affects compensation, not every remedy

Dangerous weather, an air traffic restriction, airport closure, security risk or another external event can be extraordinary. Naming one of those categories is not enough. The carrier must connect the event to this flight and show that reasonable measures could not prevent the disruption. "Operational reasons" by itself tells the passenger almost nothing.

Ordinary defects arising during aircraft operation or maintenance generally remain within the carrier's activity. A hidden manufacturing fault disclosed by the maker, sabotage or external impact can require a different conclusion. Ask for a flight-specific explanation, the timing of the event and the alternatives considered, without demanding confidential safety material.

Even a valid extraordinary-circumstances defence does not automatically remove reimbursement, rerouting or care on a covered departure. Necessary meals, an overnight hotel and transfers can remain payable while the traveller waits. Keep itemised receipts and choose proportionate options.

Point-to-point travel and connections

Air Arabia describes its operation as primarily point to point. Its conditions nevertheless distinguish a continuing journey booked on Air Arabia services under one reservation from independently assembled tickets. That distinction matters when an early delay causes a missed onward flight.

Do not assume that two flights displayed in one search result form one protected journey. Compare reservation numbers, ticket documents, through-checked baggage information and the carrier for each sector. The missed-connection guide separates same-PNR handling from the risk accepted with self-connected tickets.

Build a claim that can be decided

Keep the original confirmation, e-ticket receipt, PNR and every boarding pass. Save a screenshot of the operated-by wording before the itinerary is changed. Record scheduled and actual times, the moment passengers could leave the aircraft, the first cancellation message and every replacement offered.

For expenses, retain merchant receipts rather than relying only on a card statement. List each passenger and each remedy separately: fixed compensation, ticket reimbursement, care costs and baggage damage are not interchangeable. State the departure airport, full itinerary, operator, final delay and amount requested.

Use the official EC261 channel and preserve the submission confirmation and reference. The Air Arabia Maroc claim-form guide provides an eight-step evidence sequence.

Legal position checked on 26 August 2026

This page applies the current EC261 and UK261 rules. The EU reform adopted in July 2026 is not yet applicable. Its future nine-month filing period and 30-day airline response period must not be treated as present deadlines until publication and the application date have been verified.

FAQ

Does every Air Arabia Maroc delay of three hours qualify?

No. The journey must fall within EC261 or UK261, arrival must cross the relevant threshold, and the carrier must not prove an extraordinary cause that reasonable measures could not avoid.

Is a Morocco-to-Europe return covered because the outbound left Europe?

Normally not when 3O operates the direct return. Each flight direction is tested separately, and Air Arabia Maroc is not an EU carrier.

Can a cheap fare receive the same compensation?

Yes. A publicly available discounted fare can receive the same fixed amount when all legal conditions are met; compensation is not a percentage of ticket price.

Can hotel costs be claimed in addition to the fixed amount?

Yes, if the passenger reasonably paid for care that the airline should have provided. The expense claim and fixed compensation address different losses.

Who should receive a claim for a G9-operated flight?

The fixed-compensation claim normally follows the operating carrier. A G9 service should not be submitted to Air Arabia Maroc merely because the brands share a website.
