Extraordinary circumstances
Airline must show the disruption came from event outside normal control and that reasonable measures no fit avoid am. Stronger airline defence can include airport closure, serious weather, security risk or ATC restriction.
Weaker defence can include ordinary technical fault, crew shortage, aircraft rotation or vague operational reason.
Overbooking and denied boarding
If airline no allow you board because flight overbooked, EU261 compensation can apply if:
- you had confirmed booking;
- you came to check-in/gate on time;
- travel documents were valid;
- airline denied boarding against your will;
- route was EU261-covered.
