Oman Air Sindbad award tickets, upgrades and compensation

A Sindbad award ticket can qualify for statutory flight compensation even though miles paid for travel. EU261 covers tickets issued under a frequent-flyer programme or other commercial programme available to the public, and Oman Regulation 757/2024 expressly includes frequent-flyer tickets. Refund of miles, taxes and an upgrade is separate from EUR, GBP or OMR fixed compensation.

Check your case in the form

Enter your route, date and type of disruption. We will check whether your case qualifies for a claim under EU 261/2004 or UK261.

Step 1 of 813% completed

What happened to your flight?

Claim up to €600 for a delayed or cancelled flight.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

Keep the award booking, mileage debit, taxes, original cabin, upgrade confirmation and recredit record. Do not value every mile at an invented universal cash rate.

Separate four possible claims

IssuePossible remedy
Qualifying delay, cancellation or denied boardingStatutory fixed compensation per passenger
Unused award ticketRestoration of miles and refundable taxes under programme/ticket terms
Paid or mileage upgrade not deliveredUpgrade refund or mileage restoration
Travel in a lower cabinEU/UK percentage or Oman Article 34 downgrade remedy

One payment does not necessarily settle the others. State each component and avoid recovering the same upgrade value twice.

Award-ticket eligibility by direction

A Sindbad ticket from Paris operated by Oman Air can receive EU261 protection. A Heathrow departure can receive UK261. A Muscat departure falls under Oman Regulation 757/2024. The miles do not change the territorial test.

A separate Muscat-to-Paris Oman Air award flight normally remains outside EU261 because Oman Air is a non-EU carrier starting outside the Union. It can still use Oman rights.

The main Oman Air compensation guide identifies the correct currency and threshold.

Fixed compensation is not the mileage price

EUR 250-600 and GBP 220-520 depend on distance and event, not the number of miles redeemed. Oman OMR bands similarly follow its regulation. A low-mile promotional redemption can therefore receive the same fixed amount as a cash ticket when all conditions are met.

Calculate each ticketed passenger separately. A companion award or child award should be documented with its own ticket. A truly free infant without a reserved seat may require individual analysis.

Do not convert the statutory amount into Sindbad miles unless the passenger voluntarily accepts a clearly valued settlement.

Cancelled award travel

After Oman Air cancels, the passenger can seek rerouting or terminate unused travel. If termination is chosen, request restoration of the redeemed miles and refundable taxes or fees according to programme and ticket conditions.

Rerouting may be more valuable than miles where replacement award inventory is unavailable. Ask Oman Air to protect the original destination before accepting cancellation and recredit.

Fixed compensation remains separate when cancellation notice, alternative timing and cause qualify. The refund and rerouting guide explains why accepting fare value is not automatically a full settlement.

Paid upgrades

Oman Air may sell upgrades through eligible channels and subject to stated conditions. Keep the original ticket price, upgrade amount, payment receipt and revised booking class.

If the upgrade is not honoured, request return of the upgrade price. If the passenger is moved into a cabin below the one contractually confirmed, assess a cabin-downgrade remedy. The calculation should not count the same paid amount as both unused service and sector price without explanation.

If a disruption leads to travel on a partner, confirm the cabin before accepting. A faster Economy alternative can be sensible, but preserve the right to seek the appropriate downgrade repayment.

Mileage upgrades

For a Sindbad mileage upgrade, retain the redemption transaction and confirmed cabin. If Oman Air recredits the miles after a lower-cabin journey, check whether that fully returns the upgrade component.

The cash value of miles can be disputed. Do not promise a fixed conversion. For EU/UK downgrade percentages, seek the affected flight's fare allocation and explain how the upgrade changed the purchased transport. For Oman Article 34, request the fare difference and lower-cabin booking designator used by Oman Air.

The downgrade guide gives both formulas.

Business Studio and product changes

Oman Air product labels and aircraft assignments can vary. Prove what the passenger bought: named cabin, reservation booking designator, confirmed seat or upgrade product. A different seat design within the same cabin can be a service complaint without being statutory downgrade.

An aircraft change does not erase a genuine cabin remedy merely because safety required substitution. If the lower cabin was flown, calculate the applicable repayment. If the same cabin was delivered with fewer features, request the specific paid service value rather than applying 75% automatically.

Status benefits and lounge access

Lost lounge access, priority services, seat selection or baggage allowance can be separate ancillary issues. Record what the fare or status promised and what was not delivered.

Do not add an assumed cash value without a purchase price or programme remedy. If the passenger paid for access or extra baggage, attach that receipt. If a tier benefit was unavailable, ask for the published customer-service resolution.

These product losses do not reduce fixed passenger compensation. They simply require distinct evidence.

Evidence and claim layout

Prepare:

  • award e-ticket and booking reference;
  • mileage debit and account statement;
  • taxes and fees receipt;
  • original and replacement itinerary;
  • booked and flown cabin/booking class;
  • paid or mileage upgrade confirmation;
  • recredit or refund evidence;
  • final arrival, cancellation notice or denied-boarding record;
  • Sindbad terms applicable on booking date.

List fixed compensation first, then unused award value, upgrade and any downgrade. Use Oman Air's feedback form for passenger-rights and service claims, with the Sindbad account channel where programme correction is needed.

Example

Two passengers redeem Sindbad miles for Paris-Muscat-Bangkok and arrive eight hours late after a routine Oman Air technical fault. EU261 scope follows Paris and the through destination exceeds 3,500 km. The starting fixed claim is 2 x EUR 600 = EUR 1,200 despite mileage payment.

If one confirmed Business upgrade is not honoured on Muscat-Bangkok, add a separate request for mileage restoration and assess the affected-sector downgrade without counting the same redeemed miles twice.

FAQ

Can a Sindbad award ticket receive EUR 600?

Yes when the itinerary begins in the EU, exceeds 3,500 km and meets disruption and cause requirements.

Does mileage recredit replace fixed compensation?

No. Recredit restores unused award value; fixed compensation addresses a qualifying disruption.

What happens when a mileage upgrade is not honoured?

Request restoration of the upgrade miles and examine any cabin-downgrade remedy using the affected flight evidence.

Is Business Studio seat change always a downgrade?

No. Prove a lower contractual cabin. A feature or seat change within the same cabin may be a service issue.

Can Oman Air pay compensation in miles?

Only as a voluntary, clearly valued settlement. The passenger can request the monetary method available under the governing rule.
