Neos missed connection on one booking

Published: 10 September 2026

A missed connection is strongest when every sector belongs to one contract and the passenger reaches the last ticketed destination three hours or more late. It is much weaker when the “connection” was a self-transfer assembled from independent tickets. The booking display may look continuous in both cases, so ticket numbers, coupons and baggage-through-checking evidence matter more than a neat itinerary email.

Enter your route, date and type of disruption. We will check whether your case qualifies for a claim under EU 261/2004 or UK261.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

For Neos, also establish direction and operator. EU departures can be covered; Neos-operated third-country returns to the EU can qualify because Neos is an EU carrier. The analysis below is current at 9 September 2026. The July 2026 EU reform is subject to deferred application, and its future nine-month period is not presently operative.

Decide whether the journey is legally continuous

Look for one ticket number sequence, one PNR, through-checked baggage and a protected onward coupon. None is infallible alone, but together they show whether the airline contracted to deliver the passenger to the later destination. An agency can place separate purchases in one account without turning them into a single carriage contract.

On a through journey, final-arrival delay can control even if the first sector was less than three hours late. With a self-transfer, Neos normally promises carriage only to its own ticketed endpoint. Missing the next independent flight may support a separate damages argument, but it does not automatically extend the fixed-compensation destination.

Identify the operator that caused the missed connection

Write down who operated each sector. The Neos NO code and “operated by Neos” line distinguish the carrier from an agency, package organiser or marketing partner. Where a partner caused the disruption, the claim generally goes to that operating carrier, and its EU status can affect a third-country inbound journey.

A single journey may contain several operating carriers. That does not necessarily destroy protection, but the responsible flight and territorial gateway must be mapped carefully. Avoid addressing the entire claim only to the company whose logo appears on the booking cover.

Measure time at the contracted endpoint

Compare scheduled arrival at the last protected destination with actual arrival, normally when a door opens and passengers may leave. Preserve the original schedule, missed-connection notice and replacement boarding pass. Record time zones rather than subtracting local clock faces.

If Neos reroutes the passenger, use the actual arrival of that replacement. A delay of three hours or more can satisfy the time threshold; distance determines whether the potential fixed amount is EUR 250, EUR 400 or EUR 600. Cause and reasonable measures remain separate questions.

Worked example: Manchester to Zanzibar through Milan

Rachel buys one ticket for Manchester–Milan–Zanzibar. The first sector is operated by another EU airline and the second by Neos. A Neos operational change moves the Zanzibar departure, the connection is missed, and Rachel arrives eight hours late on a replacement. If the ticket truly protects Zanzibar as the endpoint, arrival there controls and the long-haul band may apply against the operating carrier responsible for the disruption.

Her friend buys the same flights separately to save money. Neos carries him from Milan to Zanzibar only after he reaches the gate too late for check-in because his independent Manchester flight was delayed. Neos did not contract for the feeder, so his case is not the same. Travel insurance or a claim against the first operator may be more relevant.

Care and rerouting while stranded

For a covered missed connection, the carrier should offer rerouting at the earliest opportunity and reasonable care while the passenger waits. That can include meals, communications, a hotel for an overnight delay and transport between airport and hotel. Keep receipts when assistance is absent, and choose proportionate options.

These expenses do not replace fixed compensation. Nor should a passenger demand both reimbursement of transport used and full rerouting for the same journey. Baggage delayed during the transfer belongs to a Montreal file with a PIR, tag and written claim, even if the flight claim shares the same chronology.

Attach a one-page sequence listing sector, operator, ticket number, scheduled time, actual time and outcome. Mark where the connection failed and where the passenger ultimately arrived. Add Neos communications and receipts with short descriptions.

If a holiday organiser sold the itinerary, it may handle package consequences such as lost accommodation. The operating carrier remains central to EU261 performance. Keep the two requests separate, and disclose any overlapping payment so the same loss is not counted twice.

Questions about Neos missed connections

Does one PNR prove a protected connection?

It is strong evidence, but examine ticket coupons and the actual contract as well, especially with agency-created itineraries.

What if my first flight was only one hour late?

On one protected booking, the delay at the final destination may matter and can exceed three hours after rebooking.

Will Neos pay for a missed self-transfer?

Not automatically. Separate tickets usually leave the connection risk outside Neos's transport contract.

Can I claim meals during the new connection wait?

Reasonable care can be due on a covered disruption; retain itemised receipts if assistance is not supplied.

Which airline receives a multi-carrier claim?

Usually the operating carrier responsible for the disrupted flight. Map each sector before sending the demand.
