Kenya Airways KQ Holidays disruption and refund
A KQ Holidays booking contains more than an airline ticket, so a flight disruption can create two distinct files: passenger-rights claims against the operating airline and package remedies for the hotel, transfers or activities. A Kenya Airways cancellation from Paris, Amsterdam, Heathrow or Gatwick can still qualify for EU261 or UK261 fixed compensation even when the flight was bought inside a holiday package. KQ Holidays should separately coordinate affected package components under the booking terms and applicable package law.

Check your case in the form
Enter your route, date and type of disruption. We will check whether your case qualifies for a claim under EU 261/2004 or UK261.
What happened to your flight?
Claim up to €600 for a delayed or cancelled flight.
Choose the situation that applies to your flight:
Do not cancel the whole holiday through a voluntary-change route before recording what Kenya Airways cancelled and what KQ Holidays offered.
Separate the contracts
| Problem | Likely route |
|---|---|
| KQ-operated flight delayed or cancelled from EU or UK | Claim statutory airline rights from Kenya Airways |
| Hotel nights lost because the airline moved departure | Ask KQ Holidays to amend or remedy the package |
| Passenger voluntarily cancels an operating holiday | Apply the package's cancellation terms and disclosed fees |
| KQ flight from Nairobi to Europe is disrupted | Use contract, package terms and Montreal loss; EU/UK fixed sums normally do not apply |
| Another airline operates the affected sector | Direct flight compensation to that operating carrier |
One payment can affect another only where it reimburses the same loss. Keep the categories and respondents clear.
What KQ Holidays currently promises
Kenya Airways relaunched KQ Holidays with TUI Airline Holidays in March 2026 as a platform combining KQ flights with curated holiday services. Its current 2026 FAQ asks passengers affected by a delayed or cancelled flight to contact the holiday team promptly and says that rebooking or a refund will be offered where possible.
For a package change, the FAQ says the holiday team will consider hotel and transfer bookings when preparing and carrying out the amendment. That is not a guarantee that every lost component will be preserved, so obtain revised dates, suppliers and any price adjustment in writing.
The same FAQ says a voluntary package cancellation can be refunded subject to the applicable package cancellation and administration fees. Changes can also involve availability, fare differences and administration charges. Those voluntary terms should not be applied automatically when KQ or the organiser failed to provide the booked travel.
EU and UK flight compensation remains available
EU261 applies to a qualifying KQ-operated departure from Paris or Amsterdam regardless of whether the ticket was sold alone or in a package. UK261 can protect KQ departures from Heathrow or Gatwick. The ordinary long-distance amount is EUR 600 or GBP 520 per eligible passenger, subject to notice, rerouting timing and extraordinary-circumstances rules.
The package price does not reduce the fixed sum. Nor does KQ Holidays become the operating airline merely because it collected payment for the combined booking.
Nairobi-origin KQ flights normally fall outside these fixed regimes. A holiday purchased through a UK-facing KQ Holidays site does not transform Nairobi-London into a UK261 departure.
Rerouting the full holiday
When the flight moves by a day, simply rebooking the aircraft seat is not enough to make the package workable. Request confirmation that the airport transfer, hotel check-in, safari or excursion dates have also moved. Identify any component that cannot be supplied on the new date.
If the replacement arrives at a different airport or late at night, ask who provides the onward transfer. Save the original and revised itinerary. Do not rely on a telephone assurance that does not identify the supplier, date and pickup point.
For a protected flight cancellation, the passenger can choose statutory rerouting at the earliest opportunity. If KQ Holidays proposes only a much later KQ service, ask Kenya Airways to examine a reasonable other-carrier route and ask the package team to preserve the land arrangements.
When the holiday loses its purpose
A short package can become pointless when arrival moves beyond the main event or most hotel nights. Tell KQ Holidays why the revised package no longer resembles what was purchased and request its formal cancellation or price-reduction options under the governing contract and package law.
For the flight component, an EU or UK cancellation can offer reimbursement rather than rerouting. Once the passenger chooses a flight refund, the airline normally no longer has to complete that transport. Coordinate the package decision before making an irreversible selection.
The refund, voucher and rerouting guide compares those flight choices. Do not accept a voucher for the entire package without checking expiry, named traveller restrictions, currency and whether it settles statutory compensation.
Lost nights and duplicate recovery
Suppose KQ Holidays moves a hotel booking without charge and the hotel supplies every paid night on new dates. The passenger cannot also recover the same nights as a financial loss. A fixed EU or UK amount may still be available because it compensates a different consequence.
If one prepaid night disappears and the organiser refuses a substitute or refund, document its allocated value. If the passenger buys a replacement room during airline rerouting, decide whether it is airport care from KQ or a destination package cost before submitting.
Travel insurance may cover excursions or events outside the package. Disclose amounts already reimbursed and claim only the remaining loss.
Operating carrier and ticket details
KQ Holidays can include a KQ flight number operated by another airline. Check the e-ticket's "operated by" line for every sector. The operating carrier is central to EU261 or UK261 liability, while KQ Holidays remains the contact for package coordination.
Locate the airline booking reference, 13-digit e-ticket number, KQ Holidays order, package invoice and supplier vouchers. A single web order can contain several legal references.
Check the legal package operator on the invoice. The current FAQ identifies Holidays USA, Inc. for United States sales, TUI Spain, S.L.U. for the European Economic Area and TUI International Holiday (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. for other markets. The correct package respondent can therefore differ from the operating airline.
If the package begins in Europe with a feeder operated by Air France or KLM, use the codeshare responsibility guide to assign each disruption correctly.
Evidence file and sequence
Save the original package description, price breakdown, booking terms, flight ticket, hotel voucher, transfer confirmation and activity dates. Add KQ's disruption notice, revised flight, final arrival and every message from KQ Holidays.
Send two concise demands:
- to Kenya Airways or the actual operator for flight compensation, care and statutory rerouting;
- to KQ Holidays for amendment, replacement, price reduction or refund of package services not provided.
Identify any overlap. A table showing booked service, actual service, supplier response and amount prevents the whole case being treated as a generic complaint.
Use the Kenya Airways claim procedure for the airline demand. Preserve the KQ Holidays telephone or online case reference separately.
Worked package example
A couple buys Amsterdam-Nairobi with seven hotel nights and transfers through KQ Holidays. Kenya Airways cancels the outbound less than 24 hours before travel and reroutes them two days later. KQ Holidays moves five hotel nights but the first two are lost and the return remains unchanged.
Each traveller can assess EUR 600 against KQ for the protected short-notice cancellation, unless a valid defence or rerouting exception applies. They also ask KQ Holidays for the value of the two unsupplied nights and revised transfers. Meals and a necessary airport hotel during the outbound wait are listed separately as airline care. No component is claimed twice.
If the same package starts with KQ-operated Nairobi-Amsterdam, EU261 fixed compensation normally does not apply. The couple still pursues the organiser's package solution and any contractual or Montreal loss.
FAQ
Does booking KQ Holidays remove EU261 rights?
No. A qualifying flight claim still lies against the operating airline even when transport was part of a package.
Who changes my hotel after a KQ cancellation?
KQ Holidays says it will consider hotel and transfer bookings when executing a change; obtain every revised arrangement in writing.
Can voluntary package cancellation fees apply after KQ cancels?
They should not be assumed automatically; distinguish passenger cancellation from supplier failure and check the governing terms.
Can I claim EUR 600 and lost hotel nights?
Potentially yes because they are different losses, but the same hotel cost cannot be reimbursed twice.
Is a Nairobi-origin KQ Holidays flight covered by EU261?
Normally not when Kenya Airways operates the departure from Nairobi, regardless of where the package was sold.
