JetBlue Mint and EvenMore downgrade refunds

A JetBlue passenger moved from a purchased higher cabin to a lower cabin on a protected EU or UK flight can receive 30%, 50% or 75% of the price allocated to the downgraded sector. A Mint-to-Core move on a long transatlantic departure normally points to the 75% band. Losing a preferred seat, extra legroom or another service while remaining in the same cabin is usually an ancillary-service refund issue, not automatically a statutory downgrade.

What happened to your flight?

Claim up to €600 for a delayed or cancelled flight.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

Downgrade reimbursement does not require three hours of delay or airline fault. It can coexist with a separate delay, cancellation or denied-boarding payment. See the JetBlue compensation overview.

Statutory percentages

Distance category of affected flightEU261 reimbursement
1,500 km or less30% of relevant ticket price
Intra-EU over 1,500 km, or other flight 1,500-3,500 km50%
Other flight over 3,500 km75%

UK261 retains corresponding downgrade protection. JetBlue transatlantic departures from the EU or UK are generally over 3,500 km, but calculate the exact affected sector rather than the whole holiday.

The current EU rule requires reimbursement within seven days. The adopted 2026 reform contains a future automatic 14-day mechanism but is not yet applied on 14 August 2026.

Which JetBlue changes qualify

Mint to Core: this is the clearest cabin downgrade. The long-distance statutory percentage can apply to the affected flight price.

Mint to EvenMore: examine what cabin and booking product JetBlue actually provided on the travel date. Product names and aircraft configurations change; compare the ticketed cabin, fare class and boarding pass.

EvenMore to a standard Core seat: determine whether EvenMore was sold as a distinct travel class or as a seat/service bundle within the same cabin for that flight. If no statutory lower class occurred, refund the paid EvenMore charge and any unprovided services rather than automatically claiming 75% of the flight price.

Seat assignment change within Core: normally not an Article 10 downgrade. A separately purchased seat that was not delivered should be refunded.

Calculate only the downgraded sector

The Court of Justice's Mennens judgment says reimbursement relates to the flight on which the downgrade occurred. If the ticket does not show that sector's price, a proportion based on distance can be used. Taxes and charges independent of cabin are excluded from the calculation.

Example: Paris-New York-Los Angeles costs EUR 2,400 before class-independent taxes. Mint was provided Paris-New York, but New York-Los Angeles was downgraded. Do not take 75% of EUR 2,400. Allocate the price to the affected domestic sector and apply the correct distance band only if EU261 protects that continuous booking and a statutory class downgrade occurred.

Example: London-New York Mint sector has an allocated price of GBP 1,600 excluding class-independent charges and is replaced with Core. A 75% reimbursement starts at GBP 1,200 for that sector. Any used higher cabin on another flight remains untouched.

Paid upgrades and points

A paid JetBlue upgrade should be documented with the original cabin ticket, upgrade receipt, total charge and final boarding pass. The statutory basis can depend on whether the upgrade became part of the ticketed class or remained an ancillary service. At minimum, payment for an unprovided upgrade should be returned.

For a TrueBlue points or partner award, preserve points debited, cash copay, taxes and any upgrade certificate. EU261 can apply to publicly available loyalty tickets. Valuing a points-funded cabin segment can be disputed; request restoration of points and statutory reimbursement with a transparent allocation rather than inventing a cash conversion.

Mosaic status or a complimentary operational upgrade may not create the same paid-ticket basis. Contract terms and evidence of a confirmed higher class matter.

US significant-change refund

DOT rules list downgrade to a lower class of service as a significant change. A passenger who rejects the lower cabin and alternative transportation can receive a refund of unused travel. This helps US-origin JetBlue passengers even where EU261 or UK261 does not.

If the passenger accepts and flies in the lower cabin, request the fare or upgrade difference and any carrier remedy. US law does not automatically import the European 30/50/75% table for a US-origin standalone flight.

If the lower cabin is rejected, ask JetBlue for another flight in the purchased class before cancelling. A passenger who takes a full refund for unused travel no longer has an accepted downgraded segment on which to calculate Article 10 reimbursement, although a short-notice cancellation or denied-boarding claim may arise from the facts. Preserve the exact options and the reason JetBlue could not provide the confirmed cabin.

Combine claims correctly

A Mint passenger on Paris-New York is moved to Core and arrives four hours late because of an ordinary technical problem. The passenger can potentially claim:

  • 75% reimbursement of the affected sector price for downgrade;
  • EUR 600 fixed delay compensation;
  • reasonable care costs not provided;
  • refund of a separate Mint service that was charged but unavailable, without double counting.

The downgrade percentage is not reduced because the aircraft arrived on time. Conversely, delay compensation does not repay the cabin difference.

Evidence request to JetBlue

Keep e-ticket receipt, fare class, cabin, seat map or product confirmation, original and replacement boarding passes, upgrade payment, points statement, fare breakdown and taxes. Ask JetBlue for the sector allocation where it is absent.

State original and delivered cabin for each flight. Separate same-cabin service failures from a true class move. The refund, credit and points guide explains the payment form.

This guide reflects law and JetBlue product information checked on 14 August 2026. Verify the aircraft and product sold for the actual flight.

FAQ

Does Mint to Core qualify for 75% reimbursement?

On a protected long-distance EU or UK flight, it normally points to 75% of the affected sector price, excluding class-independent charges.

Is loss of extra legroom always a downgrade?

No. If the passenger remains in the same travel class, it is usually a refund for an unprovided ancillary service.

Can I claim downgrade and delay compensation together?

Yes, when each independent test is met and the same loss is not recovered twice.

How is a points upgrade valued?

Preserve the points and cash records. Restoration and statutory valuation can be disputed, so do not invent one universal conversion.

Does bad weather remove downgrade reimbursement?

No. Statutory downgrade reimbursement is based on the lower class delivered, not carrier fault.
