JetBlue compensation amounts in euros, pounds and US dollars

There is no single JetBlue compensation amount. A protected EU departure can produce EUR 250, EUR 400 or EUR 600; a protected UK departure can produce GBP 220, GBP 350 or GBP 520. US oversales compensation is calculated from the one-way fare and arrival delay, while a cancellation refund returns unused ticket money. JetBlue's own controllable-disruption benefit follows separate bands and is currently issued as TrueBlue points for qualifying events.

EU261 amounts

Flight distanceStandard fixed sum per eligible passenger
1,500 km or lessEUR 250
Intra-EU over 1,500 km, or another covered route 1,500-3,500 kmEUR 400
Covered route over 3,500 kmEUR 600

JetBlue's EU departures to the United States are generally over 3,500 km, so EUR 600 is the usual starting band for a qualifying long delay, short-notice cancellation or involuntary denied boarding. That does not guarantee payment. Arrival timing, cancellation notice, operating carrier and extraordinary circumstances still matter.

For a long-distance delay, the airline can reduce EUR 600 to EUR 300 when rerouting reaches the final destination no more than four hours late. Similar statutory reduction windows apply after cancellation rerouting. The actual ticket price does not normally cap fixed compensation.

UK261 amounts

UK distance categoryStandard fixed sum
Up to 1,500 kmGBP 220
1,500-3,500 kmGBP 350
Over 3,500 kmGBP 520

A JetBlue-operated London departure to the United States is normally in the GBP 520 band. Where long-distance rerouting contains arrival delay below the reduction threshold, GBP 260 may apply. The London JetBlue guide addresses direction and airport changes.

EU and UK amounts are assessed per passenger. If two adults and two fare-paying children have eligible long-distance EU claims, the starting total is four times EUR 600, not one payment per booking. A free lap infant may require closer review because entitlement can depend on holding a qualifying ticket.

US denied-boarding calculation

US rules for involuntary denied boarding are based on the one-way fare to the passenger's next stopover or final destination and the arrival delay caused by substitute transportation.

Arrival effect after involuntary bumpingCurrent payment formula
No compensable delay within the statutory windowNo mandatory denied-boarding payment
Qualifying first band200% of one-way fare, capped at USD 1,075
Qualifying higher band400% of one-way fare, capped at USD 2,150

For international flights departing the United States, the first band generally applies when substitute transportation arrives one to four hours late; the higher band applies beyond four hours. Zero mandatory payment can apply where arrival is within one hour. Current DOT caps should always be rechecked because they can be adjusted.

JetBlue's summary materials have at times displayed a different flat figure. The current Contract of Carriage and DOT statutory formula are the safer controlling references. Ask for the written calculation, one-way fare and arrival comparison.

Refunds are not fixed compensation

After a cancellation or significant change, a passenger who declines alternatives can receive unused fare back. The result may be USD 180, USD 900 or another amount because it follows what was paid for unused transportation and covered ancillary services. It is not selected from the EUR, GBP or denied-boarding tables.

For a card purchase, the DOT refund deadline is seven business days; other payment methods use twenty calendar days. Taxes and ancillary fees for services not provided should be included. A refund can coexist with statutory EU or UK fixed compensation where the separate requirements are satisfied.

JetBlue Customer Bill of Rights bands

JetBlue publishes benefits for controllable events. Its current departure-delay schedule states USD 50 for 3-3:59, USD 100 for 4-4:59, USD 150 for 5-5:59 and USD 200 for 6 hours or more. It also lists separate onboard ground-delay and cancellation bands.

JetBlue says that from early 2026 qualifying compensation under this plan is issued as TrueBlue points, with the TrueBlue account attached to the reservation before departure. The dollar-denominated schedule should not be presented as a guaranteed cash transfer or converted using an invented points value. Capture the terms and actual award shown to the passenger.

The carrier says EU and UK origin passengers can pursue EC261 or UK261 in lieu of this plan. Read acceptance language to avoid treating alternative remedies as automatically cumulative.

Worked examples

Paris-New York, four hours late: one eligible adult on a JetBlue-operated EU departure may start at EUR 600. If extraordinary circumstances are not proved and no reduction applies, ticket price is irrelevant.

London-Boston, rerouted and three hours thirty minutes late: the long-distance starting amount is GBP 520, but the rerouting reduction may bring it to GBP 260.

New York-London, cancelled: no GBP 520 solely from the destination. If the passenger declines replacement travel, the unused fare and eligible extras should be refunded. A controllable event may also meet JetBlue's policy.

US involuntary bumping: a USD 300 one-way fare and substitute arrival five hours late can produce 400%, or USD 1,200, below the current USD 2,150 cap. Voluntary surrender follows the negotiated offer instead.

Evidence for the calculation

Keep the complete itinerary, payment receipt, fare breakdown, operating carrier, scheduled and actual final arrival, rebooking offer and passenger names. For denied boarding, obtain the written rights notice and one-way fare basis. For points, save the account attachment and award record.

This guide was checked on 14 August 2026. Current amounts are used; adopted future EU rules are not treated as applicable.

FAQ

Is JetBlue compensation always EUR 600?

No. EUR 600 is one EU261 long-distance band. Route coverage, event, timing, cause and rerouting can change or remove it.

Can I choose between EUR and GBP compensation?

No. The governing territory and route determine the statutory system and amount.

Does a cheap ticket reduce EU261 compensation?

Normally not. The fixed statutory sum is distance-based, while a US denied-boarding payment uses the one-way fare.

Are JetBlue points the same as cash compensation?

No. They are issued under JetBlue's current contractual policy and have account and redemption terms.

Can I add hotel costs to the fixed amount?

Reasonable care expenses can be claimed separately when the carrier should have provided assistance and did not do so.
