Air Serbia through an OTA or package: who handles each issue?

Short answer: booking Air Serbia through an OTA, travel agency or package organiser does not remove passenger rights, but it can divide responsibility. The operating airline generally handles fixed delay, cancellation and denied-boarding compensation; the ticket issuer or merchant may process a fare refund; and a package organiser can owe separate assistance or price remedies under the package contract.

What happened to your flight?

Claim up to €600 for a delayed or cancelled flight.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

Collect Air Serbia's PNR and ticket number in addition to the intermediary's reference. Without them, the airline may be unable to locate the transport contract quickly.

Identify every party

PartyTypical role
Air Serbia as operating carrierdisruption, rerouting, care and fixed passenger claim
Another operating airlinefixed claim for its codeshare sector
Ticket issuercoupon status, exchange and refund processing
Card merchantentity that collected payment
OTA or travel agentbooking service, notices and agency fees
Package organiserperformance of combined holiday contract
Travel insurerinsured cancellation or consequential loss

One company can hold several roles, but do not assume it. The card statement, e-ticket and package confirmation usually reveal the structure.

Find the airline records

Ask the intermediary for:

  • Air Serbia booking reference;
  • 13-digit e-ticket number;
  • full itinerary and fare receipt;
  • operating carrier on every sector;
  • ticket issuer and stock;
  • fare conditions;
  • ancillary receipts;
  • proof and timing of schedule notices.

Air Serbia-issued tickets often begin with 115. An agency reference alone may not work in Air Serbia's claim form. Save the original e-ticket before an exchange produces a new number.

Fixed compensation goes to the operator

EU261, UK261 and equivalent fixed passenger-rights claims generally target the airline that operated the disrupted flight. Buying through an OTA does not make the agent the operating carrier.

For a JU-marketed codeshare, inspect “operated by.” If Air Serbia actually operated an EU-departure service, submit the fixed claim directly to Air Serbia even if an agent sold the ticket. If a partner operated it, use that partner's process.

The Air Serbia operating-carrier guide prevents duplicate or misdirected claims.

Refund processing can involve the seller

After a carrier cancellation, the passenger retains the applicable refund-or-rerouting choice. An agency-issued ticket may require the seller to send the refund through the original payment chain. That processing role does not convert a statutory cash right into mandatory store credit.

Ask Air Serbia whether the coupon is authorised for refund and ask the agent:

  1. when it received the carrier authorisation or funds;
  2. which amount is fare, tax and agency fee;
  3. when the original payment method will be credited;
  4. whether any service fee applies and where it was disclosed;
  5. whether accepting agency credit settles the cash refund.

Avoid simultaneous chargeback and airline refund processes without disclosure. Duplicate recovery can be reversed and complicate the claim.

Schedule notices and lost communication

Air Serbia may send a change to the contact details entered by the agent. The agent may delay or fail to forward it. Save Air Serbia's dispatch record and the time the passenger actually received notice.

For EU261 cancellation compensation, the carrier bears the burden of proving when the passenger was informed. Agency receipt can create legal questions, especially if the intermediary was not clearly authorised to receive notice on the traveller's behalf.

Do not accept a statement that “the system notified you” without a timestamp, address and message content.

Package holidays add another contract

A package combines travel services under applicable national package law. If the Air Serbia flight is cancelled, the organiser may owe alternative arrangements, assistance, price reduction or termination rights independently from the airline's passenger duties.

Separate the demands:

LossMain route to consider
Fixed flight compensationoperating carrier
Airline ticket refundticket issuer/payment chain
Replacement package transportorganiser and carrier duties
Lost hotel nights or package valueorganiser/package law
Meals during airline waitcarrier care provisions
Insured extra losstravel insurer

Payment by one party can reduce overlapping loss. Tell each party what another has reimbursed.

Charter complication

Air Serbia's claims page tells passengers with a charter-flight delay to contact the travel agency. Charter packages can have a tour operator as the contracting organiser, even when Air Serbia's aircraft operates.

Obtain the charter flight number, operator, organiser and package documents. The direction to the agency does not justify discarding airport evidence or passenger-rights analysis; it identifies the correct first contractual channel.

Rerouting during travel

At the airport, seek immediate rerouting and care from the operating carrier rather than waiting for an OTA's office to open. The agent can help reissue, but Air Serbia manages its operational disruption.

If both parties send the passenger back and forth, write one joint chronology with case numbers and a specific requested route. Preserve suitable alternatives before self-booking.

The alternative-transport guide explains proportional replacement purchases.

A complete claim file

Create folders for airline, agent and organiser correspondence. Use the same factual timeline in each, but request only the remedy belonging to that party.

For Air Serbia include operating flight, legal coverage, final arrival, notice, cause and passenger amounts. For the agent include ticket stock, unused coupons, fare authorisation and payment evidence. For the organiser include the package contract, affected services and replacement requested.

For Serbian procedure, send Air Serbia's complete carrier claim within 90 days even if the agency is still discussing refund. The 60-day response stage applies to that carrier file.

FAQ

Can I claim Air Serbia compensation directly after booking through an OTA?

Yes when Air Serbia operated the affected flight. The agent's sales role does not remove the operating carrier's passenger-rights responsibility.

Who returns the ticket money?

The issuer or merchant may process the refund through the original payment chain. Obtain Air Serbia's refund status and the agent's itemised calculation.

Does an agency reference work in Air Serbia's form?

Not always. Obtain the airline PNR and 13-digit e-ticket number as well as the intermediary's own booking code.

Who handles a charter delay?

Air Serbia's claims page directs charter-delay passengers to the travel agency. Keep the operator and package documents for the applicable passenger-rights assessment.

Can I claim from the package organiser and airline?

Different duties can coexist, but the same loss cannot be reimbursed twice. Label fixed compensation, ticket refund and package loss separately.
