Air Serbia ELEVATE: award tickets, points and upgrades
Short answer: an Air Serbia reward ticket does not lose passenger-rights protection merely because points paid the base fare. Fixed compensation is based on the covered disruption and distance, not the cash ticket price. Return of ELEVATE points, taxes, an unused upgrade or ancillary service remains a separate contractual calculation that should be documented independently.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:
Air Serbia launched ELEVATE on 16 June 2026. Current programme rules should replace old assumptions about Air Serbia's previous Etihad Guest relationship.
ELEVATE and passenger-rights information was checked on 13 August 2026.
What ELEVATE currently covers
Air Serbia describes ELEVATE as its loyalty programme for earning and spending points on reward flights, upgrades and selected additional services. Current eligibility focuses on Air Serbia-operated services and specified wet-lease flights on Air Serbia ticket stock beginning with 115.
Air Serbia also states that booking reward travel on codeshare and interline flights is not currently available, while future expansion is planned. Do not promise point use on a partner merely because that airline appears in the same itinerary.
Save the programme page and terms applicable when points were earned or spent, because eligibility can change after launch.
Reward tickets can qualify for fixed compensation
Air Serbia's passenger-rights notice includes tickets issued under frequent-flyer and other commercial programmes. EU261 excludes only free or reduced tickets not available directly or indirectly to the public, not ordinary commercial award travel.
For a covered disruption, calculate fixed compensation normally:
| Protected journey category | Standard EU-style amount |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | EUR 250 |
| Medium-distance category | EUR 400 |
| Other travel over 3,500 km | EUR 600 |
Do not reduce EUR 600 because the passenger used points. Direction, final arrival, notice, cause and operating carrier still control entitlement.
Separate four possible claims
| Claim | Calculation basis |
|---|---|
| Fixed passenger compensation | statutory distance and disruption |
| Reward-ticket refund | points and taxes under programme plus transport rights |
| Upgrade not provided | point or cash upgrade terms and cabin evidence |
| Paid ancillary not delivered | actual fee for seat, baggage, lounge or other service |
The same point debit cannot be returned twice. Present account entries, ticket value and each requested adjustment openly.
Cancellation of an award journey
When Air Serbia cancels a covered reward flight, the passenger can choose rerouting or reimbursement under the applicable passenger-rights system. Reimbursement should restore the value used for the unused transport, including the appropriate points and refundable taxes, rather than pretending the award ticket cost zero.
If the passenger voluntarily cancels, ELEVATE reward rules, deadlines and fees govern redeposit. That is different from an airline-caused cancellation.
Do not select a normal “cancel reward” option after receiving a carrier cancellation without preserving the notice. It can make a statutory refund appear voluntary.
The Air Serbia refund guide compares transport remedies.
Upgrade problems
Keep the original cabin, confirmed upgrade, point debit or cash receipt and actual boarding pass. Then distinguish:
- confirmed upgrade followed by lower-cabin travel;
- upgrade request that never cleared;
- seat change within the upgraded cabin;
- replacement aircraft with different product but same cabin;
- upgrade unusable because the flight was cancelled.
A true cabin downgrade can produce statutory 30, 50 or 75 percent reimbursement for the affected sector. Point-based calculations can be disputed because sector cash value is not always shown. Ask Air Serbia for the fare allocation and seek restoration of the unused upgrade without inventing one exchange rate.
The Air Serbia downgrade guide explains the Mennens affected-sector method.
Wet lease and partner operations
ELEVATE currently includes eligible Air Serbia flights performed through published wet-lease partnerships when ticket conditions are met. An airBaltic or Bulgaria Air aircraft on a designated JU service does not automatically remove points or passenger rights.
Codeshare is different. If another carrier actually operates its own service, fixed compensation goes to that operator, and current ELEVATE earning or spending eligibility should be checked rather than assumed.
Keep the 115 ticket, JU number and operated-by wording. Those documents resolve both points and carrier responsibility.
Transition from earlier loyalty arrangements
Air Serbia's move to ELEVATE is recent. A passenger may hold an older booking, status benefit or point record associated with the previous Etihad Guest cooperation. Do not merge the programmes in one balance calculation.
Preserve dated emails, legacy account statements and migration terms. Ask Air Serbia which programme governed ticketing, upgrade and refund on the purchase date. A current ELEVATE page cannot alone rewrite an earlier confirmed benefit.
Evidence for the claim
Download or screenshot:
- ELEVATE account activity before and after booking;
- reward confirmation and 115 e-ticket;
- taxes and cash co-payment;
- upgrade or ancillary receipt;
- original and replacement cabin;
- disruption notice and final arrival;
- any point redeposit or partial refund;
- Air Serbia case number.
State requested remedies in separate lines. For example: fixed compensation of EUR 600, redeposit of a stated number of points, refund of named taxes and return of an unused upgrade. Do not convert the entire points balance into cash unless the applicable terms provide a defensible method.
Deadlines
For a Serbia-procedure passenger-rights claim, submit to Air Serbia within 90 days and allow the 60-day complete-file response stage. Programme disputes can have shorter contractual correction windows, so report a missing point debit or failed redeposit promptly.
Montreal baggage and delay-damage periods remain separate from ELEVATE account rules. A reward ticket does not change the Convention's written-notice requirements.
FAQ
Can an ELEVATE reward flight receive EUR 600?
Yes when the journey is legally covered, falls in the long-distance band and meets disruption conditions. Use of points does not reduce the fixed amount.
Does cancellation return points automatically?
Do not assume it. Check the account and request restoration of points plus refundable taxes for unused transport under the applicable carrier-cancellation rules.
Is a point upgrade loss the same as downgrade?
Only if a confirmed higher cabin became lower-cabin travel. An upgrade that never cleared or a lost seat within one cabin follows a different contractual claim.
Can I spend ELEVATE points on every Air Serbia codeshare?
Air Serbia currently says codeshare and interline reward bookings are not available. Verify the live programme rules before planning partner travel.
Are wet-lease flights eligible for ELEVATE?
Air Serbia describes eligibility for specified JU services on 115 ticket stock, including published wet-lease operations. Keep the ticket and current programme terms.
