Air Serbia compensation amounts: EUR 250, EUR 400 or EUR 600
Short answer: Air Serbia compensation is not chosen from the fare price. Where the governing passenger-rights regime provides the familiar fixed bands, the standard amount is EUR 250, EUR 400 or EUR 600 per eligible passenger, based principally on great-circle distance from the relevant origin to the protected final destination. Coverage, disruption type, arrival, notice and cause must be proved before applying the table.

Serbian passenger legislation adopts the same monetary structure for the relevant protected events. For pure delay departing Serbia, however, the Civil Aviation Directorate points out that the Serbian statute does not express Court of Justice delay compensation in precisely the same way. The amounts can inform the demand without pretending that a BEG-origin delay is automatically an EU261 award.
UK261 uses sterling bands rather than converting the euro table at the day's exchange rate. Canadian APPR uses Canadian-dollar amounts tied to final delay and carrier size. Air Serbia's current Canadian tariff declares it a large carrier for APPR purposes. Keep those systems separate.
Measure the right endpoints
EU261 distance is ordinarily calculated by the great-circle method between origin and final destination. It is not the kilometres displayed on the aircraft's actual track and does not increase because weather caused a detour.
For a direct covered flight, identify the departure and destination airports. For one protected connection, use the first origin and last ticketed destination affected by the disruption. The connection airport is not automatically the endpoint.

Use a reliable great-circle calculator and record airport codes. Do not round a route near 1,500 or 3,500 km casually; a few kilometres can move it into another band.
Coverage comes before distance
A distance exceeding 3,500 km is only a potential EUR 600 category. The journey must first fall within a system that awards that amount for the event.
An Air Serbia flight from an EU airport is within EU261 regardless of the airline's Serbian nationality. The same carrier's flight from Belgrade into the EU is normally outside EU261. Serbia's national passenger rules can apply to the latter, while London departures use UK261 and Toronto travel can engage APPR.

Examples of potential calculations
Short EU departure
An Air Serbia-operated journey begins in an EU city and ends in Belgrade, with a verified great-circle distance under 1,500 km. A covered involuntary denied boarding can place each eligible passenger in the EUR 250 band. Three passengers would have a potential total of EUR 750, separate from rerouting and meals.
Medium route from the EU
An eligible journey from an EU origin to Belgrade measures more than 1,500 km but less than 3,500 km. The standard band is EUR 400 per person. A cheap promotional ticket does not lower the fixed figure.
Long connection through Belgrade
Four passengers hold one reservation from an EU airport through BEG to North America. A qualifying disruption causes final arrival more than four hours late, and no extraordinary defence succeeds. If the protected origin-to-destination distance exceeds 3,500 km, the potential fixed total is EUR 2,400.
Reverse long-haul journey
The family travels from North America through Belgrade to the EU, entirely operated by Air Serbia. The distance is still long, but EU261 normally does not cover the inbound journey because it begins outside the EU and the operating airline is not EU based. Another regime must supply the right before any amount is quoted.
When can an amount be reduced by half?
Current EU261 allows a 50 percent reduction where rerouting reaches the final destination within specified time limits:

For a long-haul claim, this can turn EUR 600 into EUR 300. Air Serbia must rely on the actual replacement arrival relevant to the passenger. Merely offering an itinerary expected to fit the window does not prove that it did.
Keep this reduction distinct from a 50 percent cabin-downgrade refund. The two percentages arise from different rights and use different calculation bases.
Amounts do not cover every loss
The fixed sum compensates statutory inconvenience. It does not automatically reimburse:
- ticket price for abandoned travel;
- a reasonable hotel or meal bill;
- replacement transport bought after failed rerouting;
- lost income or a missed non-refundable event;
- baggage loss, delay or damage;
- refund due after a cabin downgrade.
Actual losses from international delay may be considered under the Montreal Convention, subject to proof, causation, defences and its current SDR limit. Double recovery of the same loss is not allowed. Present each category with its own amount and source.

Award tickets and families
Air Serbia's passenger-rights notice includes tickets issued through frequent-flyer programmes and other commercial schemes. An ELEVATE reward seat is not excluded merely because the base fare was paid with points. Taxes, point return and an unused upgrade remain separate contractual items.
Fixed compensation belongs to each affected eligible passenger. One purchaser can coordinate the claim, but name all travellers and provide authority where another adult's payment details are used. For infants or unusual no-seat tickets, inspect the confirmed reservation and applicable legal interpretation rather than assuming inclusion or exclusion.
Evidence for the calculation
Attach the complete itinerary, ticket numbers, operating-carrier line, scheduled and actual arrival, cancellation notice and reason. State the airport codes used for distance and whether every sector was on one booking.
Write the arithmetic openly:
Protected route: EU origin-Belgrade-final destination, one reservation. Great-circle category: over 3,500 km. Eligible passengers: 3. Requested fixed compensation: 3 x EUR 600 = EUR 1,800.
Then place refund, care and other losses below separate headings. This prevents Air Serbia from treating the fixed figure as an unsupported lump sum.
FAQ
Is Air Serbia compensation based on my ticket price?
No. The fixed passenger-rights amount is generally driven by distance and disruption. Fare price matters for refunds, voluntary cancellation and downgrade calculations.
Does every Air Serbia flight to New York qualify for EUR 600?
No. The relevant legal system must cover the direction and operator, and the event must meet its remaining conditions. Long distance alone creates no payment.
Is compensation paid per booking or per person?
It is normally calculated for each eligible passenger. A booking containing four qualifying travellers can therefore produce four fixed amounts.
Can Air Serbia reduce EUR 600 to EUR 300?
Yes in a qualifying EU261 rerouting case when actual final arrival falls within the long-haul four-hour reduction window. The evidence must support that timing.
Are ELEVATE reward tickets eligible for fixed compensation?
Commercial reward tickets can fall within passenger-rights protection. Return of points, taxes or an upgrade should still be requested separately from the fixed sum.
