Air Arabia Maroc AirRewards: points tickets and disrupted flights

An Air Arabia Maroc ticket paid wholly or partly with AirRewards points can still qualify for EC261 or UK261 when the flight direction and disruption meet the rules. The regulation covers fares available directly or indirectly to the public, while excluding free or reduced fares unavailable to the public. A publicly accessible loyalty redemption is not automatically disqualified merely because points replaced part of the cash price.

First identify Air Arabia Maroc code 3O. A shared loyalty programme does not turn G9, 3L, E5, 4P and 3O into one operating carrier. The company-identification guide explains the distinction.

EC261 on an award ticket

Current EC261 applies to a passenger with a confirmed reservation at a fare available directly or indirectly to the public. It excludes free or reduced fares not publicly available. AirRewards is open under published programme rules and permits members to redeem points for Air Arabia flights, including Points plus Cash. That supports coverage analysis rather than an automatic exclusion.

The journey must still fall within the regulation. An Air Arabia Maroc departure from the EU, EEA or Switzerland can be covered. A direct 3O return from Morocco normally is not because the carrier is non-EU. UK261 similarly protects a UK departure but normally not the direct Morocco-origin return on 3O.

Payment type does not replace the ordinary tests. A long arrival delay needs a qualifying threshold and cause; cancellation depends on notice, replacement timing and extraordinary circumstances; denied boarding requires timely presentation and valid documents. Use the Air Arabia Maroc compensation calculator for the fixed amount.

Fixed compensation is not converted into points

EC261 compensation is a statutory sum, commonly EUR 250 or EUR 400 for the covered Air Arabia Maroc routes in scope. The fact that the ticket cost fewer points, was Points plus Cash or came from a family account does not proportionally reduce that fixed amount.

The airline should not replace a cash statutory payment with loyalty points or travel credit without valid passenger agreement. Ask for the remedy and payment method explicitly. For a group, compensation is assessed for each eligible passenger, while points may have been debited from one member account.

Do not confuse fixed compensation with reimbursement. Refund or rerouting addresses the cancelled ticket; compensation addresses qualifying disruption. Both can coexist when their separate conditions are met.

Restoring points, taxes and cash

For an airline-cancelled reward journey, preserve the original points debit, cash payment, taxes, surcharges and extras. Request an itemised response explaining what will be restored to the AirRewards account, what will return to the payment method and what happens to any paid seat, bag or meal.

AirRewards terms say points can pay the base fare and surcharge and may be combined with money; taxes and fees remain the passenger's responsibility. This makes one undifferentiated refund amount inadequate. Screenshot the member activity before and after the transaction.

When accepting rerouting, ask whether the existing redemption remains attached and whether additional points or fare difference will be charged. A statutory earliest-rerouting remedy on a covered cancellation should not be treated as a voluntary award change merely because the original seat was redeemed.

If a points reversal leaves a new expiry date or loses points that would have remained valid but for the cancellation, raise that issue promptly and request the applicable programme basis. Do not assume a universal extension without written terms.

Voluntary cancellation of a redemption

AirRewards programme rules state that changes and cancellations of award flights follow Air Arabia's standard policies and fees. The current public FAQ for Points plus Cash says the cash value after cancellation is made available as credit after applicable charges. That is a commercial voluntary-cancellation rule, not the answer to an airline-cancelled covered flight.

Check Basic, Value or Ultimate conditions, booking direction, deadline and any promotional restriction. Do not press voluntary cancellation after receiving an airline disruption notice. Preserve the sequence and use the refund, credit and rerouting guide instead.

Transferred loyalty value can have separate rules. For example, the official Etihad transfer page states that completed transfers cannot be reversed or refunded. Do not transfer points during an unresolved flight refund in the hope that this will preserve a claim.

Missing points after completed travel

The current AirRewards FAQ allows members who omitted their membership email to claim points for a completed flight within the previous 90 days. Sign in, use the past-flight request and provide the PNR. This earning deadline is unrelated to the time limit for EC261 litigation or a Montreal baggage claim.

Points are not normally awarded for unused, cancelled, forfeited, refunded or credited travel under the published programme rules. A passenger should therefore identify whether the flight was actually completed before requesting missing earnings.

For a redemption error, save the exact message, points balance, date and attempted booking. Air Arabia's FAQ says points missing after a payment error should reverse within an hour and directs unresolved cases to programme support. Do not repeat the transaction until the first debit is understood.

Evidence and submission

Keep the booking confirmation, operated-by line, AirRewards account number, points statement before and after the booking, cash receipt, taxes, extras and disruption notice. For a family account, identify the travelling passenger and the account from which points were taken.

Submit fixed compensation through the EC261 channel where applicable. Send the points-restoration issue through AirRewards support, linking both references without combining the requests into one unexplained total. State precisely how many points, how much cash and which statutory amount are outstanding.

Rules and programme pages were checked on 26 August 2026. Redemption levels, expiry, transfer products and cancellation conditions can change, so retain the version attached to the transaction.

FAQ

Can an AirRewards ticket receive EC261 compensation?

Yes, potentially. A publicly available loyalty fare is not automatically excluded, but direction, operating carrier, disruption and cause must still satisfy the regulation.

Is fixed compensation paid in AirRewards points?

It should not be converted into points without valid passenger agreement. The statutory payment is separate from restoring the reward currency used for the ticket.

What happens to points after Air Arabia cancels the flight?

Request an itemised remedy showing points, cash, taxes and extras. The exact restoration follows the disruption right and applicable programme record.

How long do I have to claim missing points for a completed flight?

The current official FAQ states 90 days after the completed flight. This is an earning rule, not the legal deadline for flight compensation.

Can Points plus Cash be refunded after I cancel voluntarily?

The current programme FAQ refers to cash value becoming credit after applicable cancellation charges. Booking-specific fare and programme terms should be checked before acting.
