World2Fly flight compensation: delays, cancellations and your rights

Published: 2 November 2026Updated: 2 November 2026

A World2Fly disruption can fall under EU261 when the journey leaves the EU or when World2Fly operates the flight back to the EU. UK261 may apply to a World2Fly departure from the UK or an arrival in the UK operated by the Spanish or Portuguese airline. Eligibility still depends on the actual operator, route, notice, arrival delay and cause: a long-haul ticket does not automatically produce the maximum payment.

Check which rules cover your flight

Enter the complete route, date, operating airline and disruption. We will check whether EU261, UK261, Turkish SHY or another passenger-rights framework may be relevant.

What happened to your flight?

Choose the situation that applies. Eligibility and currency depend on the route, operating airline, disruption and applicable law.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

World2Fly sells leisure-focused long-haul journeys and currently presents destinations including Cancún, Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, Cali, Cartagena, Rosario, Mauritius and Zanzibar. That commercial profile makes direction especially important. Madrid to Cancún and Cancún to Madrid can both enter EU261 when World2Fly is the operating EU carrier; a replacement operated by a non-EU airline can change the answer on the return.

Which World2Fly company operated the flight?

The brand covers two licensed EU airlines. World2Fly, S.L.U. holds a Spanish operating licence, while World2Fly Portugal, S.A. holds a Portuguese licence. The group's published carriage conditions identify the Portuguese company for flights operated from and to Portugal. Both are EU carriers, so the core EU261 territorial result is often the same, but the legal entity still matters for the complaint address, regulator, evidence and any court proceedings.

Check the e-ticket, boarding pass, airport display, disruption message and the line marked “operated by”. A World2Fly flight number is useful but not conclusive if another airline supplied the aircraft and crew. Conversely, a holiday was perhaps sold by a World2Meet business or an independent organiser, yet the operating airline can remain World2Fly. Do not send every demand to the travel seller simply because it took the payment.

Route direction decides which system applies

SHY references EUR 100 for domestic travel and EUR 250, EUR 400 or EUR 600 internationally, settled in TRY at the TCMB selling rate on the payment date. The charter and holiday flight guide explains the date and complaint tests.

Outbound and return sectors must be tested separately even when bought together. Residence, passport, booking currency and the location of the tour operator do not extend the regulations. On a through booking, the protected final destination can determine the delay; independently booked self-transfers usually remain separate journeys.

Delays, cancellations and denied boarding

For EU261 and UK261 delay compensation, measure arrival at the relevant final destination, usually when a door is opened for passengers, rather than the departure-board delay. The normal fixed-compensation threshold is at least three hours at arrival. World2Fly may resist payment if it proves extraordinary circumstances and reasonable measures, but a bare description such as “operational reasons” is not enough to decide the issue.

A cancellation creates a choice between reimbursement and rerouting under the applicable regime. Separate fixed compensation depends on matters including when notice arrived, the replacement times and the cause. Notice at least 14 days before departure normally removes the additional fixed cancellation amount under EU261 or UK261, but not the transport choice. Keep the first message and its timestamp, particularly when an organiser relayed it.

Involuntary denied boarding is different again. A passenger with a confirmed booking who checked in on time and held the required documents can have rights when the airline refuses carriage for capacity reasons. Refusal based on travel documents, security, health or a missed deadline needs a different analysis. Record whether volunteers were requested and obtain any voucher offer in writing.

Compensation is not the same as a refund

EU261 fixed amounts are EUR 250, EUR 400 or EUR 600 according to the protected distance category. A long flight outside the EU can fall in the EUR 600 band, although rerouting close to schedule can permit a reduction. UK261 uses GBP 220, GBP 350 and GBP 520; on a journey over 3,500 km, arrival between three and four hours late can reduce the GBP 520 amount to GBP 260.

These are separate statutory scales, not currency conversions. Do not request two full awards for the same disruption without analysing overlap and any payment already received. Nor should the ticket price be confused with fixed compensation.

Reimbursement concerns the unused fare. Rerouting concerns replacement transport. Care can cover reasonable meals, a necessary hotel and transfers while waiting. Keep itemised receipts if the airline or organiser did not provide those services. Proven delay loss on qualifying international carriage may require a Montreal Convention analysis; its 6,303 SDR passenger-delay limit is a ceiling on proven loss, not an automatic award.

Flight-only booking, package or replacement carrier

World2Fly offers direct booking tools, but many passengers encounter the airline within a package. The package organiser may owe contractual help for accommodation or the holiday as a whole. EU261 or UK261 duties normally focus on the entity that operated the disrupted flight. Those roles can coexist, so state precisely whether you seek a fare refund, package remedy, expense repayment or statutory compensation.

If a substitute airline appeared at the airport, save the revised boarding pass and aircraft information. The return from the Caribbean is a common point at which the operating-carrier test can alter coverage: World2Fly as an EU operator can bring an inbound flight within EU261, whereas a non-EU substitute may not. The logo shown during booking cannot settle that question.

How to make a World2Fly complaint

Start with World2Fly's official customer-service channel and select the correct Spanish or Portuguese booking context. Include passenger names, booking reference, ticket number, airports, flight date, scheduled and actual arrival, notice received, actual operator and the reason supplied. List fixed compensation, reimbursement and expenses as distinct requests, with receipts and bank details where requested.

For a Spanish flight, World2Fly's legal notice points passengers to the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency's alternative dispute-resolution process for eligible Regulation 261 complaints concerning flights from 2 June 2023 onwards after the airline's response is unsatisfactory. Portuguese operations follow the appropriate Portuguese complaint and enforcement route. Forum and time limits must be checked for the individual journey rather than inferred from the language of the website.

If UK261 is the possible basis, complain to the airline first. After a final response or eight weeks without one, verify whether the particular operator participates in CAA-approved ADR. Otherwise PACT may be relevant, but it cannot impose a binding award. General court time limits are commonly six years in England and Wales and five in Scotland; jurisdiction and limitation still need case-specific review.

Check the complete itinerary

Use the flight compensation calculator with every airport and the true operating airline. For a return booking, enter each direction separately. The transatlantic flight-rights guide explains why protection can differ on the homeward leg. Treat the result as an initial assessment, not a guarantee of a particular amount.

FAQ

Are World2Fly Spain and World2Fly Portugal the same legal airline?

No. They are separate licensed companies under one brand. Both are EU carriers, but identify which company operated the flight for the complaint and escalation route.

Is a World2Fly return from Cancún to Madrid covered by EU261?

It can be when World2Fly actually operates it, because the airline is EU-based. Confirm that a non-EU replacement carrier did not perform the sector.

Does every World2Fly long-haul delay pay EUR 600?

No. Coverage, arrival delay, distance category, cause and possible rerouting reduction all matter. Refunds and care also have separate tests.

Can UK261 apply even though World2Fly is not a British airline?

Yes. A departure from the UK can be covered regardless of carrier, and an EU carrier's qualifying arrival into the UK can also be covered.

Should I complain to the holiday organiser or World2Fly?

Match the recipient to the remedy. Flight compensation normally concerns the operating carrier; package-contract issues may belong to the organiser. Some evidence should be sent to both.
