Lufthansa compensation claim form: what to enter and attach

Short answer: use Lufthansa's post-flight Feedback route for a compensation request after completed or disrupted travel. Enter every affected sector, select the airline that actually operated it, identify all passengers and upload a compact evidence set. A refund, baggage report or current-day rebooking should use its dedicated Lufthansa tool instead of being buried in a general message.

Check your case in the form

Enter your route, date and type of disruption. We will check whether your case qualifies for a claim under EU 261/2004 or UK261.

Step 1 of 813% completed

What happened to your flight?

Claim up to €600 for a delayed or cancelled flight.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

The form is only a transmission channel. It does not decide whether EU261, UK261, US DOT or Canadian rules apply. Prepare that analysis first so the submission contains a legal request rather than a customer-service narrative.

Choose the correct Lufthansa channel

Rebooking during live disruptionHelp Center or My bookings
Delayed baggageonline baggage report and tracing

Using the wrong form can create a reply about fare conditions when the passenger is actually claiming statutory compensation. If several remedies arise, say so explicitly and attach a one-page schedule.

Before opening the form

Collect the original itinerary and do not rely on the current booking view alone. Automatic rebooking can overwrite scheduled times. Save:

  • booking code and e-ticket numbers;
  • full names exactly as ticketed;
  • original and replacement flights;
  • scheduled and actual final arrival;
  • operating airline on each affected segment;
  • cancellation or delay messages;
  • receipts and payment proof;
  • bank details for the requested currency;
  • authority where one person acts for another adult.

Lufthansa's Feedback form accepts attachments and asks for all flights in the affected journey, including connections. That is important. A missed connection claim assessed only at Frankfurt can look too short when the legally relevant destination was Johannesburg.

Airline and flight fields

Do not choose "Lufthansa - LH" solely because the ticket number or marketing flight starts with LH. The form's carrier list includes Lufthansa City Airlines, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Austrian, SWISS, Brussels and many partners. Select the operator shown on the boarding pass for the affected service.

Enter all journey sectors in order. If disruption on the first flight caused a late final arrival, include the onward flight even if it operated on time without you. Explain the causal chain in the narrative field.

For codeshare uncertainty, attach the e-ticket line showing "operated by" and read which Lufthansa Group airline must answer.

Passenger fields and authority

Fixed compensation is individual. Add every traveller in the claim and show the amount per person. Do not omit children with their own seat, award-ticket passengers or a traveller whose ticket was paid by an employer.

Where the form permits a family in the same household, it may process several passengers together. That does not merge their legal entitlements. A third party should upload signed authority in the format requested. For unrelated adults on one booking, separate authority may prevent privacy-based delay.

Avoid credit-card details in the free-text field. Lufthansa expressly warns against sending them. Use the secure payment fields provided and state only the original payment method where relevant to a refund.

Write the narrative as a decision table

The text should be factual and compact:

  1. Request: legal basis and amount.
  2. Journey: origin, connection, final destination and booking code.
  3. Disruption: scheduled and actual times, cancellation notice or denied boarding.
  4. Operator: airline that performed or intended to perform the affected flight.
  5. Cause: Lufthansa's stated reason and any precise challenge.
  6. Other sums: refund, care expense or downgrade in separate lines.

Example wording:

I request EUR 600 for each of three passengers under Regulation 261/2004. Our single-ticket Lufthansa-operated journey from Toronto via Munich to Rome arrived in Rome 9 hours 18 minutes late after the inbound technical delay caused us to miss the connection. The original itinerary, all boarding passes and the replacement booking are attached.

Do not claim that every technical event is compensable. Say that the carrier has not identified an extraordinary external event and request the evidence if it relies on one.

Attachments that answer likely objections

Likely disputeAttachment
Passenger did not travelboarding pass, check-in or baggage record
Wrong final destinationcomplete e-ticket and replacement itinerary
Notice sent earlyfirst received message with timestamp
Different operating carrierboarding pass and codeshare line
Delay under three hoursdoor-opening evidence and time calculation
Expense not reasonableitemised receipt and explanation of necessity

Use clear file names without special symbols. Lufthansa's form publishes format and size restrictions, which can change. If a bundle is too large, reduce image resolution while preserving readable timestamps and submit an indexed PDF plus critical originals.

Confirmation and follow-up

Before pressing submit, save the final text in a local document. After submission, keep the confirmation screen, email, case number and list of files. A browser success page without the reference can disappear.

Reply inside the existing case where possible. Duplicate forms can split evidence between reviewers. If no confirmation arrives, check spam, record the submission time and use Help and Contact to ask whether the case exists.

Lufthansa asks passengers not to send unnecessary repeated messages during processing backlogs. That does not mean abandoning a limitation deadline. A formal follow-up should identify the case number, original date and missing response.

Refund and compensation are different selections

A passenger rerouted after cancellation may still claim fixed compensation. A passenger who abandoned a five-hour delay may need a refund. The form should not describe both as "refund" because the reviewer may answer only the ticket question.

Write, for example:

  • Article 7 fixed compensation: EUR 1,200 for two passengers;
  • Article 9 reasonable expenses: EUR 146.80;
  • Article 8 unused sector refund: EUR 312.40.

The how-to-claim guide explains eligibility; the rejected-claim guide prepares the next step if Lufthansa disputes the file.

FAQ

Is Lufthansa Feedback the compensation form?

Lufthansa's passenger-rights page directs claims to its Feedback route. The Help Center may expose a more specific compensation option based on the journey.

Should I include connecting flights in the form?

Yes. Include the complete affected journey so final-destination delay and end-to-end distance can be assessed correctly.

Which airline do I select for an LH codeshare?

Select the carrier that actually operated the affected flight, as shown by the "operated by" line and boarding pass.

Can I upload hotel and meal receipts?

Yes. Label them as care expenses, add proof of payment and keep their total separate from fixed compensation.

What if the form gives no confirmation?

Save evidence of submission and contact Lufthansa through Help and Contact to verify the case. Do not create many duplicate claims without explanation.
