flydubai EUR 600 compensation for long-haul journeys

Short answer: EUR 600 is possible when a flydubai journey covered by EU261 exceeds 3,500 kilometres, ends at least three hours late or meets the cancellation or denied-boarding rules, and is not excused by extraordinary circumstances. A through booking from the EU via Dubai to Asia or Africa can use the final destination and total distance. A flydubai journey starting in Dubai does not become eligible merely because it is long. UK261 uses separate sterling bands rather than EUR figures.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:

The amount comes after coverage, not before it

First identify the departure country and actual operator. A flydubai-operated journey from the EU can enter EU261; one from Dubai to the EU usually cannot. Then establish one protected booking, the qualifying event and cause. Only after those gates should the distance band be calculated. A long route outside the regulation produces no European fixed sum.

Write those gates as yes-or-no rows. This prevents distance from dominating a claim that fails territorially and highlights covered outbound traffic. For a return ticket, run the table twice. Passenger residence, an EU-issued card and booking through a European agent do not move the return departure point.

EU261 uses three distance bands

Protected journey distanceStandard fixed amount
Up to 1,500 kmEUR 250
Intra-EU over 1,500 kmEUR 400
Other journeys from 1,500 to 3,500 kmEUR 400
Other journeys over 3,500 kmEUR 600

Measure the great-circle distance between the first departure and final destination on the protected booking. Do not add the flown doglegs through Dubai. Save the airport codes, method and result. If the value lies near a boundary, verify it independently rather than rounding a marketing mileage figure. UK261 has its own GBP bands and should be calculated in that regime.

Through Dubai can produce the long-distance band

A single ticket from the EU to Dubai and onward to a distant city can exceed 3,500 kilometres from origin to final destination. If a covered disruption causes qualifying late arrival at that destination, EUR 600 can be the starting figure even when the first sector alone would be shorter. Preserve every coupon and the carrier's replacement itinerary.

Separate tickets usually stop the first calculation in Dubai. An OTA connection guarantee can address replacement cost but does not automatically alter EU261 distance. Do not conceal the ticket split; calculate the covered sector correctly and present any agent or insurance demand separately. A reliable EUR 400 claim is better than an unsupported EUR 600 claim.

Rerouting can reduce a fixed amount by half

Where the airline provides qualifying rerouting, EU261 permits a 50 percent reduction if arrival stays within two hours for the shortest band, three hours for the middle band or four hours for the long-distance band. The fact that flydubai offered any replacement does not by itself justify halving compensation.

For a journey over 3,500 kilometres, record whether actual final arrival was less than or at least four hours late. An arrival three hours and 45 minutes late may support EUR 300 in the relevant rerouting setting; five hours points back to EUR 600 if all other conditions hold. Ask flydubai to identify the timing and legal basis for any reduction.

Fare price, cabin and extras do not change the fixed band

A discounted Economy passenger and a Business passenger can receive the same fixed amount for the same disruption. Paid baggage, a seat or lounge access does not increase EUR 600. If an extra was not delivered, request its price separately. A downgrade has its own percentage reimbursement mechanism where EU261 applies.

Reward travel is not automatically excluded when the ticket was available to the public. Preserve the booking, cash elements and points record. An operational upgrade does not raise compensation. The fixed sum addresses time and disruption; it is not a refund of ticket price and is not capped at the fare paid.

A family calculation has passenger rows and receipt rows

Four confirmed passengers travel from an EU airport through Dubai on one long-haul booking. They reach the final destination 12 hours late after a controllable crew-planning failure. The starting fixed calculation is 4 × EUR 600 = EUR 2,400. Each passenger is named and assessed; do not rely only on the number of names in the PNR.

The group also pays for one room, two shared rides and meals. Those expenses are entered at actual value once, not multiplied by four. Check infants and disrupted ticket status individually. If one person voluntarily abandoned the journey before the airline's solution, explain that person's facts rather than assuming the same result for all.

Show a calculation that can be audited

List first airport, final airport, operating carrier, great-circle distance, event, notice date, scheduled and actual arrival, rerouting threshold and amount per passenger. Cite a document for each input. Add a separate expense schedule and any unused ticket value. If flydubai pays in another currency, preserve the conversion details but keep the EU legal calculation in EUR.

Do not sign a full release until the offer identifies passengers and claim heads. EUR 300 may be a lawful reduction, a partial payment or a goodwill figure; the accompanying message matters. If the route starts outside Europe, remove the EU amount and identify the alternative legal basis rather than leaving a misleading total in the demand.

FAQ: frequently asked questions about this flydubai situation

Can flydubai pay EUR 600 even though it is not an EU airline?

Yes, for a qualifying EU-departing journey; carrier nationality does not block the departure limb.

Does every journey longer than 3,500 km qualify?

No. Coverage, event, final delay and cause must also satisfy the regulation.

Can flydubai reduce EUR 600 to EUR 300?

Potentially after qualifying rerouting if final arrival is under four hours late; it must meet the legal conditions.

Is compensation limited to the ticket price?

No. Fixed EU261 compensation is set by distance and can exceed a low fare.

Does each family member receive a separate amount?

Each eligible confirmed passenger is calculated individually; shared hotel and taxi costs are claimed only once.
