Airline compensation A-Z: check EU261 and UK261 coverage
This directory includes all 198 airlines available in the ClaimWinger claim form at this update, including former operators retained for historical claims. An airline's presence here does not mean that every flight qualifies for compensation. The first questions are where the journey started, which legal company actually operated the disrupted flight, whether the itinerary was issued as one booking and where the protected final destination was. EU, EEA and Swiss carriers can often bring an inbound flight into EU261; a non-European carrier is normally covered by EU261 only when it departs from the EU or EEA. UK261 requires a separate UK-focused test.

Choose the situation that applies to your flight:
| Itinerary or operator | First legal test | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| EU, EEA or Swiss operating carrier | departure from, or qualifying arrival into, the European area | final destination, arrival delay and disruption cause |
| UK operating carrier or UK airport | UK departure, UK arrival and carrier establishment | compare UK261 and EU261 without claiming twice |
| non-European operating carrier | did the covered journey depart from the EU or EEA? | one booking, final destination and the affected segment |
| connection outside Europe | one ticket or a self-transfer? | whether the final-destination rule reaches the later sector |
| codeshare or wet lease | the operated by line, not only the flight number | direct the claim to the operating carrier |
| no European or UK connection | local law, contract and Montreal Convention | do not present it as an EU261 case |
Start with the operating carrier
The company selling a ticket, the airline code printed before a flight number and the operator supplying the aircraft can be different. A Lufthansa booking may be operated by Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa City Airlines, Discover Airlines or another wet-lease carrier. Ryanair group flights can involve Ryanair DAC, Malta Air, Buzz or Lauda Europe. TUI, easyJet and Wizz Air also use more than one legal airline.
Read the words operated by on the original itinerary and boarding pass. Keep a screenshot if the operator changes close to departure. Aircraft paint is useful supporting evidence but is not decisive on its own. For EU261 and UK261, the operating carrier is usually the company responsible for the statutory claim.
Established English airline guides
The English guide already contains mature article families for many of the airlines passengers use most. The main starting pages include Ryanair, Wizz Air, Lufthansa, British Airways, easyJet, Air France, Emirates, American Airlines, Air Canada, LOT Polish Airlines, TAP Air Portugal and Air Serbia.
New comprehensive guides close the most important remaining gaps: Condor, Jet2, SunExpress, ITA Airways, Vueling, Aegean Airlines, Air Europa, EgyptAir, TUI airlines, Norse Atlantic, PLAY and EL AL.
All airlines in the claim form from A to Z
The code in brackets is the IATA designator used in bookings. Related companies remain separate because their place of establishment and role as operator can change the legal analysis.

Former airlines retained for historical claims
Air Malta (KM), Alitalia (AZ), Blue Air (0B), Czech Airlines (OK), Flybe (BE) and Norwegian Air International (D8). PLAY (OG) appears above but also ceased operations in September 2025. These entries help identify older tickets; they do not imply that the airline still sells or operates flights.
EU, EEA and Swiss airlines
An EU or EEA airline can normally be within EU261 for a covered departure and also for a flight from a third country back into the protected area. This is why an Icelandair flight from the United States to Iceland, a Condor return from Canada to Germany or a PLAY return to Keflavik can differ from the same route operated by a US carrier.
UK airlines and flights touching the United Kingdom
UK261 retained the main structure of EU261 after Brexit, but the territorial tests and compensation currency are distinct. British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Jet2 and TUI Airways can fall within UK261 on qualifying routes. An EU departure may also bring EU261 into view even when a UK airline operates the flight.
Non-European airlines: where valid claims are concentrated
American Airlines, Air Canada, Emirates, Etihad, EgyptAir, EL AL and many Asian or African carriers are not EU airlines. A flight they operate from an EU or EEA airport can nevertheless be protected. For example, an EgyptAir booking beginning in Paris and continuing through Cairo may be assessed to the final destination if it is one protected booking.
The separately booked return operated by the same non-EU airline from Cairo, Dubai, New York or Tel Aviv is usually outside EU261 merely because it lands in Europe. UK261, Canadian APPR, Turkish SHY-YOLCU, Israeli law, US Department of Transportation refund rules or the contract may still matter. Those systems should be identified by name rather than blended into an EU compensation promise.
Airlines with no regular European service
Airlines without regular European service can still appear on a longer booking. Listing them does not make an isolated local sector eligible for EUR 250-600.
Evidence to collect before choosing an airline
- Save the original itinerary, e-ticket receipt and booking reference.
- Record the marketing and operating carrier for every sector.
- Keep boarding passes, rebooking documents and cancellation messages.
- Establish whether all sectors were issued under one reservation and ticket.
- Note the actual time the first aircraft door opened at the protected final destination.
- Separate statutory compensation, ticket refund, rerouting, care expenses and baggage loss.
FAQ: Frequently asked questions
Does every airline departing Europe fall under EU261?
An EU or EEA departure is generally within EU261 regardless of the operator's nationality, but the remaining conditions still have to be met. The event, check-in status, final delay and cause all matter.
Is a non-EU airline covered on its return flight to Europe?
Not merely because it lands in Europe. A separately assessed inbound flight operated by a non-EU carrier is usually outside EU261. One-booking case law or another passenger-rights system may change the practical route.
Why are easyJet, Wizz Air, Ryanair and TUI listed more than once?
Their brands can involve multiple legal operating airlines. The entity named after operated by may determine territorial coverage, the correct respondent and the complaint body.
Can an internal US flight be part of an EU261 journey?
Potentially, when it is part of a single protected booking that started in the EU and the final-destination rules apply. A separately purchased domestic ticket is normally not converted into an EU261 flight.
Do I claim from the airline that sold the ticket?
Usually the statutory claim goes to the operating carrier. The seller, travel agent, tour organiser and codeshare partner may have separate contractual duties but are not automatically the EU261 debtor.
What if I cannot identify the operating airline?
Check the e-ticket, booking confirmation and boarding pass for operated by, then compare the IATA and ICAO codes. Preserve any airport notice showing a last-minute operator change before submitting the claim.
